Position Overview

The CDL A Driver “Driver” reports to the Field Office’s Branch Manager. The Driver is responsible for the transportation of non-hazardous and hazardous waste materials via multiple vehicle types including but not limited to Roll-Offs, Tankers, Box Vans, Air Movers, etc. The Driver also performs tasks under the direct guidance of a supervisor including non-emergency and emergency response activities involving confined space entry such as manholes, tank cleaning, oil spill cleanup, drum handling, decontamination, sweeping and shoveling, high pressure washing and various other remedial activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and always acting in a safe manner.
  • Adherence and documentation of all transportation compliance requirements including inspection reports, mileage logs, trip reports, etc.
  • Predominately local work with occasional mandatory out-of-town travel. Additional opportunities to volunteer for extra OTR routes.
  • Ability to load and unload different types of waste effectively.
  • Capability to operate light and heavy equipment including skid steers, forklifts, pressure washer, preferred. Providing administrative support to operations team
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) properly and adhere to all safety procedures.
  • Performs labor intensive activities in all weather conditions.
  • Works in atmospheres with low clearances, confined spaces, and at heights.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment, not limited to forklifts, aerial lifts, boom lifts, skid steers, excavators, pressure washers, pumps, and other company work vehicles.
  • Attends mandatory training to earn certifications and obtain information specific to responsibilities.
  • Ensure all proper paperwork is signed and submitted.
  • Works “on-call” based on a rotating “on-call” schedule for Emergency Responses. May require out-of-town travel. Length of travel will vary, based on service center and on-going project requirements.

Education and Experience Required

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • At least 2 years of Class A Driving experience.
  • Current CDL A with a clean driving record.
  • Current Tanker and Hazmat Endorsements.
  • No manual or airbrake restrictions.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER experience/certification preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and alcohol testing.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background checks.
  • Must be able to successfully complete OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour and other mandatory training courses.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for extended periods of time, overnight, and on an on-call basis.
  • Able to read, write, and understand the English language, and able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to dust (chemical and environmental), fumes (chemical and fluids), exhaust and highly pressurized fluids.
  • Must be able to perform physical labor including lifting, pulling, and pushing heavy objects.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively at times.
  • Must be able to wear PPE.
  • Must be able to work under adverse conditions (heat & cold).
