Job Duties
Key Responsibilities – Software Engineer, Energy Systems

  • Design, build, and support software systems used to manage and optimize distributed energy assets and battery storage fleets.
  • Develop applications supporting dispatch operations, asset availability, state-of-charge management, demand charge reduction, and energy market participation.
  • Build and maintain APIs, backend services, event-driven architectures, and real-time data processing systems.
  • Create operational tools including dashboards, monitoring platforms, workflow applications, alerting systems, and decision-support interfaces.
  • Improve system reliability, scalability, observability, and fault tolerance across fleet management platforms.
  • Partner with engineering, operations, and controls teams to translate business and operational requirements into software solutions.
  • Lead technical design discussions and contribute to software architecture, engineering standards, and development best practices.
  • Develop automation tools that streamline commissioning, onboarding, testing, and operational processes.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools and workflows to improve software quality, testing, documentation, and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor team members and provide technical guidance while contributing as a hands-on individual contributor.

Qualifications – Software Engineer, Energy Systems

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, backend development, systems engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, or related services.
  • Strong proficiency developing production applications using Python.
  • Experience building APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
  • Background supporting real-time, industrial, IoT, operational technology, or mission-critical software environments.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, system integration, troubleshooting, and application performance.
  • Experience designing and delivering internal tools, dashboards, and operational applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and drive software best practices.
  • Hands-on experience utilizing AI-powered tools within software development workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications – Software Engineer, Energy Systems

  • Experience developing real-time monitoring systems, WebSocket applications, or event-streaming platforms.
  • Background in battery energy storage systems (BESS), distributed energy resources (DER), energy management systems (EMS), SCADA, utilities, or power generation.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, or ICCP.
  • Experience working with controls-adjacent systems, automation platforms, state machines, or simulation environments.
  • Previous experience serving as a technical lead or helping scale engineering teams.
