Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for a Data Science Intern- Institutional Student Worker. The Data Science Intern supports the University of North Georgia's strategic priorities by assisting with statistical analysis, predictive modeling, machine learning, and quantitative research projects using trusted enterprise data. Working within the Analytics & Innovation Incubator, the intern contributes to real institutional analytics initiatives while gaining practical experience in data science, institutional analytics, and applied artificial intelligence.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct applied data science projects (e.g., enrollment forecasting, capacity planning, student success modeling).
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists and other members of the Data Strategy team to define project scope, methodology, project milestones, and deliverables.
  • Build statistical and machine learning models while performing analysis using Python or R.
  • Prepare clear reports, visualizations, and briefings for university stakeholders.
  • Document methods, code, assumptions, and results for reproducibility.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Familiarity with SQL, GitHub, or other analytical development tools.
  • Foundational knowledge of data science, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, or machine learning principles.
  • Familiarity with Python or R for data analysis, visualization, and model development.
  • Ability to clean, prepare, analyze, and interpret structured datasets.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and quantitative reasoning skills.
  • Ability to document analytical work clearly and communicate findings to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of North Georgia pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics, Mathematics, or another closely related discipline, or pursuing the Data Science specialization.
  • Completion of coursework demonstrating foundational knowledge in data science, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, machine learning, programming, or related quantitative disciplines.
  • Coursework in machine learning, predictive analytics, data mining, or artificial intelligence.
  • Experience completing research, capstone, or class projects involving quantitative analysis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework and/or project experience using Python, R, SQL, or comparable analytical tools is preferred.
