Job description

Summary/Objective

This position is responsible for overall Environmental Compliance for our plants across the North America, including Environmental programs, systems, policies, training, risk management, Federal and State Regulatory compliance and audits and interactions. This position will assist Plant Manager/Directors with overall plant environmental programs, systems, policies, training to be in alignment with Federal and State EPA compliance and audits and resolve any outstanding issues

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for proposing, developing, implementing, and promoting all programs and strategies in the area of environmental compliance for Savencia North America
  • Identifies and analyzes risks and hazards at all locations and proposes corrective actions, training, documentation
  • Applies knowledge of sustainability practices to oversee a variety of activities, including but not limited to industrial emergency management, environmental protection
  • Provides support in the areas of certifications, environmental permitting, spill prevention plans, pollution prevention, employee training, etc.
  • Heavily involved with the facilities emergency response program to environmental issues
  • Acts as the head of the Environmental First Responder team and assists in emergency situations with responder skills as required. Sets up training and teams for First Responders in Plant and Corporate teams.
  • Establishes and follows up on training programs for new hires, existing employees, visitors and contractors
  • Performs Environmental Assessments, audits, and training. Maintains records.
  • Leads and is a key resource for Environmental Committees, responsible for follow up action items
  • Responsible for implementing and leading a Environmental Risk Management Program at each location and managing the Risk Map, priority action list
  • Performs incident investigations, root cause analysis and implements action plan
  • Leads the CSR team in Water Reduction Programs and Activities with the plants across North America
  • Participates in Groupe Savencia CSR/environmental meetings and ensures the completion of Groupe Savencia reporting
  • Responsible for the maintenance of testing/analyzing equipment in accordance with the law
  • Responsible for providing Capex Environmental Road Map
  • Ensures all employees follow all environmental procedures and works with management to implement corrective action, training, or disciplinary action
  • Responsible for environmental tracking and reporting as well as Groupe reporting and training
  • Responsible for ammonia system and boiler emissions oversites of all North America plants
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use fingers to type. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing throughout the day. The employee must occasionally lift or move items up to or over 40 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Domestic travel is required for this position approximately 25% of the time to other company locations. Some international travel may be required for training and conferences.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies or related discipline
  • 3+ years of increasing environmental program management experience in a complex, fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Expert-level experience in risk analysis
  • Experience leading risk analysis projects and initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental programs and communications accident investigation, and training methods
  • Knowledge of industry best practice regarding environmental approaches
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people
  • First Responder Training, Hazardous Certifications or the willingness to become trained in these areas
  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment (preferred)
  • Implementation experience with state air permits, storm water permits, and waste management systems (preferred)
  • Bi-lingual preferred (English/Spanish or English/French)
