Manager, Risk Management: Customer Resiliency

We're embarking on an exciting new chapter in how we manage risk and drive resiliency across our organization-and we want you to be a key part of it!

We are seeking a proactive, sharp-minded Manager, Risk Manager who will excel in a team environment and are skilled in risk management, process improvements, and analytics to join our Customer Resiliency team.

Primary responsibilities will include driving modernization initiatives to enhance control performance and operational effectiveness, collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver destination state controls and standards, and advancing a data drive strategy that assesses and mitigates risk across the organization. This role includes a balance of people leadership, process, and risk management. Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit excellent people management skills; helping associates grow and develop while holding them accountable, encourage and demonstrate a positive attitude, team spirit, set high standards, coach team members, provide feedback, communicate a vision, and encourage innovation

  • Manage risk management initiatives to modernize control performance and support control builds, enhancements, and QA

  • Manage a well-managed strategy to prepare for audits, overseeing assessments, responding to audit requests, and following through on remediation efforts

  • Build successful relationships with Customer Resiliency L2s to understand impact of control performance on critical business processes

  • Lead oversight of control performance team and support escalations and remediation of control performance issues

  • Create and present impactful risk reports based on control performance observations, highlight key risks, trends, mitigation efforts, and control effectiveness

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills with the ability to influence partners across the company at multiple levels, including Audit, Risk, Data Analysts, and Process teams

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • At least 4 years of Risk Management experience

  • At least 4 years of Project or Process Management experience

  • At least 4 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients

  • At least 2 years of leading Process improvement efforts

  • At least 2 years of People Management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors' degree or Military experience

  • 5+ years of Risk Management, Compliance or Risk Controls experience

  • 2+ years of experience with data management, reporting and analytics

  • 2+ years of experience working with Technology and Data teams, including tracking data and reporting on key performance indicators

  • 2+ years of experience in Structured Query Language (SQL) or Tableau

  • 1+ years of experience using Lean & Six Sigma tools and methodology

  • At least 1 year of experience reporting and analyzing data

  • BPM, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Risk Manager


Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Risk Manager










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
