Job description

JOB SUMMARY

A Clinical Research Assistant is an entry-level research position. This positionย is responsible forย performing a variety of duties including coordinating aspects of clinical trial protocols including but not limited to study initiation, recruitment, study visits,ย monitorย visits, regulatory compliance,ย study close-out,ย along with but not limited toย other administrative tasks.ย 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Care & Study Visitsย 

  • Obtain informed consent (when delegated) while ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory requirementsย 

  • Screen prospective participants for eligibility in non-interventional (Non-IP) clinical studiesย in accordance withย study protocols and inclusion/exclusion criteria.ย 

  • Provide patient care and collect,ย documentย andย maintainย accurateย medical and research data during study visits in compliance with study protocols andย regulatoryย requirements.ย ย 

  • Instruct patientsย regardingย study protocols and visit requirements.ย ย 

  • Arrange for or perform phlebotomy and other delegated clinical procedures.ย ย 

  • Pack and ship laboratory specimens andย collectย laboratory results.ย ย 

Participant Recruitment and Screeningย 

  • ย Identifyย potential research participants through medical records, referrals, databases, provider referrals, and community outreach.ย ย 

  • Conductย thoroughย remote pre-screenings and eligibility assessments, coordinating with healthcare professionals as needed to verify medical history and suitability.ย ย 

  • Perform initial outreach to pre-identifiedย research participantsย to discussย study opportunityย 

  • Schedule research appointments and coordinate participant visits.ย Appropriate documentationย within theย Innovoย specific CTMS system as trained.ย 

Study Coordination & Documentationย 

  • Maintainย accurateย case report forms (CRFs), source documents, and study records.ย ย 

  • Maintain regulatory documentationย in accordance withย sponsors, FDA, GCP, and protocol requirements.ย ย 

  • Document patient interactions, recruitment activities, and enrollment efforts accuratelyย and inย timelyย within theย Innovoย specific CTMS system as trained.ย ย 

  • Maintain study supplies and inventory necessary to support research activities.ย 

Collaboration & Communicationย 

  • Serve as a liaison between investigators, providers, sponsors, patients, and study representatives.ย ย 

  • Collaborate with Clinical Research Coordinators, investigators, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to support study execution.ย 

Compliance & Qualityย 

  • Adhere to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), FDA regulations, HIPAA, and all applicable research regulations.ย ย 

  • Followย Innovoย Research policies, SOPs, and protocol requirements.ย ย 

  • Ensure patient safety, confidentiality, and data integrity at all times.ย ย 

  • Supportย monitoringย visits, study initiation activities, audits, and study close-out activities.ย 

  • Attend required meetings as invited by Manager/Directors/Site Staff.ย 

  • Complete andย maintainย required trainings both company and study specificย 

Administrative Responsibilitiesย 

  • Utilize EMR, CTMS, CRIO, and other electronic systems to document research activities.ย ย 

  • Maintain calendars and schedule patient appointments.ย ย 

  • Complete assigned reports and documentation accurately andย timely.ย ย 

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support site operations.ย 

Educationย 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's Degree preferred.ย ย 

  • Phlebotomy experience/certification preferred.ย ย 

  • Certified Nurse Assistant Certificate and/or graduation from an accredited program for medical assistants is a plus.ย 

Experienceย 

  • 2-5+ years of experienceย ย 

  • Knowledge of OSHA and FDA regulationsย regardingย clinical research is a plus.ย ย 

Skills & Competenciesย 

  • Maintainingย confidentiality isย a must.ย ย 

  • Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.ย ย 

  • Knowledge of electronic medical records and scheduling systems is a plus.ย ย 

  • Experience working with providers and other department staffย is a plus.ย ย 

  • Phlebotomy experience or willingness to learnย 

  • Ability to apply andย modifyย professional research principles, methods, and techniques to provide ongoing patient care.ย ย 

  • Skilled inย identifyingย problems and recommending solutionsย andย understandingย common safety hazards and precautions forย maintainingย a safe working environment.ย ย 

  • Prepare/maintainย records,ย writeย reports, respond to correspondence, and respond to e-mails.ย ย 

  • High levelย of computer competency.ย ย 

  • Ability toย maintainย quality control standards.ย ย 

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in all situations.ย ย

WORKING CONDITIONS

This job operates in a professional and clinical environment with occasional visits to other Innovo Research partner sites/clinics. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. There is frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Varied activities include standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting.ย  Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.ย  It requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.ย  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.ย  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.ย ย 

Due to the nature of this position, employees are expected to work in person. This is an exempt position under the federal and state wage and hour laws, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay beyond your salary.ย  Employees are expected to work 40 hours a week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
