Position Description:The goal of this position is to be prepared to step into a Store Manager role. The primary role of the Assistant Manager is to successfully oversee operations of a C-Store in the absence of a manager. This individual is also responsible for required daily, weekly and monthly paperwork including inventory and bank deposits, etc. when the Store Manager is not working. The Assistant Manager will assist the Store Manager in the day-to-day activities within the store and the development and training of store sales associates, while ensuring that company standards are met at all times. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for supporting the training and coaching of all employees to follow all state and federal regulation compliance, including alcohol and tobacco sales.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Assists management with the hiring and training of new and existing staff.
  • As requested by the Manager, conducts or assists with performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Assists the Manager with employment actions, including discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides exceptional customer service.
  • Establishes all sales are recorded accurately: includes gas, lottery and convenience store items.
  • Assists with making bank deposits as requested by Store Manager.
  • Collaborates with management team and communicates any concerns with merchandise pricing to the Price Book Administrator.
  • Assesses environmental procedures, ensuring compliance, training staff on spill response, safety and security issues, and the reporting procedures for both staff and customer incident or accidents following company reporting protocol.
  • Manages inventory, approving or facilitating purchases as needed; verifies costs and receipts, orders supplies as necessary.
  • Exhibits exceptional customer service with each guest interaction.
  • Monitors staff performance, identifying and facilitating opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Oversees daily duties of staff to ensure projects are completed and customer needs are met.
  • Trains staff on federal and state approved certification programs for the sale of age restricted products.
  • Maintains property, may include emptying trash cans, wiping down gas pumps, salting.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Scheduling flexibility for all shifts with ability to perform all duties of a store associate regularly, including covering shifts when necessary for call ins, overnights, and weekends.
  • Basic understanding of budgeting principles, including managing expenses, tracking sales performance, and maximizing profitability.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to assign and delegate tasks.
  • Proficient with POS or related retail sales software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues to achieve common goals.

Education and Experience:

  • One year in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Two years of related experience in the retail / customer service industry preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Be able to enter and work in a cooler of 30 degrees up to 30 minutes at a time.
  • Must be able to lift merchandise up to 40lbs.
