WORK SCHEDULE: Parttime, Tuesday & Thursday 8:30am-3:30pm, 14 hours per week
SUPERVISION: SocialDay Program Manager/COA Director
Statement of Duties: The SocialDay Program Assistant assists the Program Manager in executing a variety ofregular weekly or monthly activities. Employee is required to perform allsimilar or related duties.
Supervision Required: Under general supervision of the Social Day ProgramManager, the employee is familiar with the work routine and uses initiative incarrying out recurring assignments independently with specific instruction. Thesupervisor provides additional, specific instruction for new, difficult orunusual assignments, including suggested work methods. The employee is expectedto recognize instances which are out of the ordinary and which do not fallwithin existing instructions; the employee is then expected to seek advice andfurther instructions. Reviews and checks of the employee's work are applied toan extent sufficient to keep the supervisor aware of progress, and to ensurethat completed work and methods used are technically accurate and thatinstructions are being followed.
SupervisoryResponsibility: Upon the absence of the programmanager, the employee, as a regular andcontinuing part of the job, leads other workers and volunteers in accomplishingassigned work and also performs non-supervisory work that is usually of thesame kind and levels as is done by the group led. The work leader isresponsible to his/her supervisor for assuring that the work assignments ofother workers and volunteers are carried out by performing duties whichtypically consist of most of the following: distributes and balances workloadamong employees in accordance with established workflow and job specialization;assures timely completion of work; instructs employees in specific tasks orexplains work methods to be employed and indicated applicable referencematerial and guidelines; checks work progress and reviews completed work to seethat instructions have been carried out; answers questions and resolvesproblems that arise in the work; provides on-the-job training to new employees;reports to the supervisor on disciplinary problems, performance and trainingneeds of employees; resolves simple, informal complaints of employees andrefers others to the supervisor; may approve leave for a few hours or foremergencies.
Confidentiality: Has access to some confidential information obtainedduring performance of regular position responsibilities in accordance with theState Public Records Law.
Accountability: Consequences of errors missed deadlines, or poor judgment may includelegal repercussions, personal injury and danger to the health/safety of programmembers.
Judgment: Well-definedor detailed rules, instructions, and procedures cover all aspects of work.Judgment involves choosing the appropriate practices, procedures, regulationsor guidelines to apply in each case.
Complexity: The work consists of a variety of duties whichgenerally follow standardized practices, procedures, regulations or guidelines.The sequence of work and/or the procedures followed vary according to thenature of the transaction and/or the information involved, or sought, in aparticular situation.
Work Environment: The work environment involves everyday discomfortstypical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise orphysical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally notunpleasant. Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours toattend evening meetings.
Nature and Purpose of Public Contact: Relationships with co-workers and the publicinvolving frequent explanation, discussion or interpretation of practices,procedures, regulations or guidelines in order to render service, plan orcoordinate work efforts, or resolve operating problems. Other regular contactsare with service recipients and employees of outside organizations such asvendors. More than ordinary courtesy, tact, and diplomacy may be required toresolve complaints or deal with hostile, uncooperative or uninformed persons.
Occupational Risk: Dutiesgenerally do not present occupational risk with only occasional exposure torisk or stress. Minor injury could occur, however, through employee failure toproperly follow safety precautions or procedures. Examples of injury includeminor bruises from falls, minor cuts or burns, or minor muscular strains fromlifting or carrying heavy equipment or materials.
Essential Functions:

- Assists Social Day Program Manager in the execution of activities.
- Able to lead the program in the Manager's absence.
- Able to use Smart Technology to co-facilitate programs.
- Prepares monthly calendar.
- Inputs attendance using Schedules Plus.
- Creates invoices and posts payments for participants.
- Creates monthly reports that are submitted to Director for meal and transportation reimbursement.
- Type and mail letters to families as needed.
- Maintains safety for all members at all times.
- Communicates with participants in a comfortable fashion with genuine interest, compassion and concern for their needs and feelings.
- Maintains good communication with caregivers.
- Provides guidance to the volunteers who assist with the program activities.
- Oversees the program and preforms all related duties in the Program Manager's absence.
Recommended MinimumQualifications:
Education and Experience: High School degree or equivalent with one to three(1-3) years related work experience; orany equivalent combination of education, training and experience which providesthe required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functionsof the job. Must have experience working with people with Alzheimer's Disease.
SpecialRequirements: Must havea valid driver's license and pass a CORI/SORI and background check. CPR Certification preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill
Knowledge: Someknowledge and/or training in gerontology or social services.
Abilities: Ability to meet and deal with program members andtheir families effectively and appropriately; ability to handle problems andemergencies effectively; ability to relate to older adults in a comfortablefashion with genuine interest, compassion and concern for their needs and feelings;ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to operatea computer; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to deal with membersthat are experiencing behavioral challenges.
Skill: Basicorganizational skills; basic data processing skill in the use of personalcomputers.
Physical and Mental Requirements

Physical Demands: Moderate physicaldemands are required to perform the work. Work effort principally involvessitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking,and standing. There may also be some occasional lifting of objects such asoffice equipment, tables and chairs. The job requires energy and stamina tomeet the needs of the members for a 6-hour time period.
Motor Skills: Duties arelargely mental rather than physical, but the job may occasionally require moderatemotor skills for activities such as moving objects, operating a telephonesystem, computer and/or most other office equipment, typing and/or wordprocessing, filing, and sorting of paper.
Visual Demands: Positionrequires the employee to occasionally read documents and reports forunderstanding and analytical purposes.
