Title: Environmental Outreach Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Environmental Outreach Manager

Pay: $33 to $37.75 per hour

GreenWaste specializes in all aspects of material collection, processing, and sales, tailoring our service offerings to the unique needs of our customers and communities, and helping to shape the evolution of the solid waste and recycling industry. We work directly with 20+ municipalities and 50+ jurisdictions, operate highly regulated facilities in 10+ locations, and have 1,000+ employees.

We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Environmental Outreach Coordinator to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 2765 Lafayette Street, Santa Clara, CA and limited job-related travel may be required.


Position Summary:


GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of Environmental Outreach Coordinator to provide support to one or more facilities. This roleโ€™s main functions include building and expanding waste prevention, reuse and recycling programs, and a special interest in helping communities achieve zero waste.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Outreach Team to develop a strategic and targeted approach to conducting public outreach and education throughout our service areas.
  • Identify waste reduction, reuse, and recycling opportunities for residents, businesses, complexes, schools, and special events and develop and implement tailored programs to increase diversion.
  • Develop collateral materials for distribution, including but not limited to: recycling and โ€œhow-toโ€ guides, brochures, newsletters, and notifications for new programs and/or changes in service.
  • Conduct presentations and offer facility tours to service organizations, schools, business groups, civic associations, neighborhood and homeownerโ€™s associations, workshops, and other community events.
  • Develop partnerships with non-profit and service organizations to build markets for reuse of materials.
  • Contribute to the development of an annual public outreach and education plan and track and report on progress, including challenges encountered and program successes.
  • Work with Outreach Team to keep website current and ensure easy access to educational materials and important information on collection requirements, program successes and diversion statistics.
  • Conduct hands-on waste audits of residential, multi-family, schools, city facilities and commercial sectors to determine the breakdown and composition of materials by sector.
  • Initiate meetings with business owners and/or decision makers to provide educational materials, on-site workshops and/or presentations to market and implement recycling and diversion programs.
  • Identify opportunities for GreenWaste to become more involved in the communities in which we service, including organizing events and developing incentive programs for employees to participate.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to promote Company programs with vision, enthusiasm and a โ€œcan doโ€ attitude.
  • Possession of strong organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with residents, businesses and schools on waste prevention, reuse, and recycling.
  • Demonstrated experience creating effective networks with the public, businesses, community service organizations and governmental agencies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent in environmental science, business administration, or a related field.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience implementing a highly visible program in a position involving public contact. A Bachelorโ€™s degree may be substituted for up to two yearsโ€™ experience.
  • Graphic design and presentation experience

Language Skill:

  • Proficiency in English and/or Spanish


Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit at a computer for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs.

Work Environment:

Typical work week is Monday through Friday. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work in setting with frequent changes in equipment, start/end time, service city/town and routes based on the operational needs for the day and or week.
