Job description

Hexcel is currently seeking an Environmental Engineer to support our Salt Lake City, UT, USA, Fibers location.

The position will be responsible for working with the Site Environmental Manager and operations teams to support environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • Support the site's Environmental Management System (EMS) to maintain alignment with ISO 14001:2015 standards, including assisting with audits, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (EPA, UDEQ), including air, water, and waste requirements.
  • Collect environmental samples (water, air, soil) and assist with data tracking, analysis, and reporting.
  • Support preparation and submission of regulatory reports such as TRI, Tier II, emissions inventories, and other required filings.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify and address environmental risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
  • Participate in energy efficiency and sustainability efforts, including identifying opportunities to reduce environmental impact.
  • Learn and support environmental permitting processes, including modifications and renewals.
  • Contribute to maintaining a positive and proactive environmental culture across the site.
  • Engage in cross-functional training and professional development opportunities within EHS.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Science, or related degree.
  • 1+ years of experience in environmental compliance, EHS, or related field (internships/co-ops applicable)
  • Exposure to ISO 14001 or environmental management systems preferred
  • HAZWOPER training or other EHS certifications preferred
  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations (EPA, state-level agencies such as UDEQ)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong commitment to EHS and safe work practices. Willingness to learn and grow within environmental and broader EHS disciplines.
