Job description

Position: Part-Time Water Sample Collector
Location: Fort Belvoir, Virginia
Reports To: Water Quality Program Manager
Position Summary
I-2-I Solutions is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Water Sampling Technician to collect drinking-water samples at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
The technician will perform monthly and quarterly sampling at designated locations, complete field measurements, maintain chain-of-custody documentation, and prepare samples for delivery to the laboratory. Additional repeat or emergency sampling may occasionally be required.
Essential Duties
  • Collect drinking-water samples for Total Coliform, HPC, TTHM, and HAA5 testing.
  • Perform field measurements for free chlorine, total chlorine, pH, and water temperature.
  • Follow approved sampling procedures, including disinfecting and flushing sample taps.
  • Label samples and complete field forms and chain-of-custody documents accurately.
  • Store samples in coolers and deliver or prepare them for timely laboratory transport.
  • Report damaged sampling ports, low chlorine levels, or other unusual conditions.
  • Perform repeat sampling following a positive test result when requested.
  • Maintain sampling equipment, meters, coolers, and supplies in clean working condition.
  • Coordinate sampling visits with I-2-I Solutions and Fort Belvoir personnel.

Work Schedule
  • Monthly: Routine drinking-water sampling.
  • Quarterly: Disinfection by-product sampling.
  • As needed: Additional, repeat, quality-control, or emergency sampling.

Routine sampling is generally performed Monday through Wednesday during normal weekday business hours. Some emergency assignments may require availability within 24 hours.
Qualifications
  • Previous water-sampling, environmental, laboratory, or specimen-collection experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow written sampling instructions and prevent sample contamination.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Comfortable using portable water-quality meters.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift and carry coolers and sampling equipment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and must be able to successfully pass an NCIC Level III background check and meet all Fort Belvoir site-access requirements.
  • Must have a REAL ID or other acceptable federal identification.
