Davis County Health Department, Environmental Health Division is currently hiring for a full-time Environmental Health Scientist in Clearfield, Utah. The priorities of the Division are rooted in ensuring food is safe to eat, water is safe to drink, air is clean to breathe, and principles of sanitation and safety are followed. This position performs professional duties in the implementation of environmental health protection and enforcement programs.

Pay Range and Benefits:

Level I Non-licensed candidates will start at $25.59/hr

Level II (refer to qualifications below): $28.67- $44.29/hr

Level III (refer to qualifications below): $30.32 - $46.83/hr

Salary based on qualifications and experience.

Requirements

Level I

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in a field of study (i.e., agronomy, biology, botany, chemistry, environmental health science, geology, microbiology, physics, physiology, sanitary engineering or zoology) that meets criteria for licensure as a Registered Environmental Health Scientist by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL).

  • Must become an Environmental Health Scientist-in-Training by the Utah DOPL within three (3) months of hire date. Must be licensed as a Registered Environmental Health Scientist by the Utah DOPL within two (2) years of hire date.

Level II

Level I qualifications plus two (2) years of full-time experience as an Environmental Health Scientist, or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Must be licensed as a Registered Environmental Health Scientist by the Utah DOPL.

Level III

Level I qualifications plus four (4) years of full-time experience as an Environmental Health Scientist, or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Must be licensed as a Registered Environmental Health Scientist by the Utah DOPL.

Preference for applicants who are licensed as a Registered Environmental Health Scientist by the Utah DOPL.

Preference for GPA above 3.0.

Day to Day Duties

Duties vary based on work assignment

  • Conducts on-site sanitation inspections of retail food establishments, commercial facilities, public pools, onsite wastewater systems, drinking water systems, and other related entities.
  • Conducts and evaluates results of laboratory tests of samples for determining bacteria content of culinary water, swimming pools, and non-potable water sources.
  • Investigates complaints, recommends solutions, and makes follow-up inspections.
  • Performs quality assurance, assists in developing rules and regulations.
  • Performs data collection using standardized techniques and equipment.
