Summary
The Health and Safety Assistant is responsible for assisting the Health and Safety Manager in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of employees and the compliance of the company with relevant safety regulations. They will be responsible for assisting with safety audits, training programs, incident investigations, and safety reporting. The Health and Safety Assistant will work closely with employees and management to promote a safety culture within the company.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Health and Safety Manager in developing, implementing and maintaining safety programs, policies, and procedures
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections and assessments to identify and address safety hazards and risks
  • Assist in investigating safety incidents, accidents and near misses, and prepare reports on findings and recommendations
  • Assist in the development and delivery of safety training programs to employees
  • Maintain safety records and databases, and prepare safety reports for management
  • Keep up to date with changes in safety regulations, laws and standards, and communicate these changes to management and employees

Educational background / Work experience
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental health and safety, or a related field
  • Completion of safety certification programs such as OSHA 30-hour General Industry or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience in a safety-related role in the transportation and logistics industry

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software applications related to safety

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, laws and standards specific to the transportation and logistics industry
