Description
Effective September 1, 2026, the ABET-accredited Architectural Engineering (AREN) program will become the third academic program within the Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University.
The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a part-time, visiting (non-tenure) position with a 9-month appointment beginning August 24, 2026, or January 1, 2027, at the Visiting Lecturer, Visiting Senior Lecturer, Visiting Principal Lecturer, Visiting Professor of the Practice, Visiting Instructional Assistant Professor, Visiting Instructional Associate Professor, Visiting Instructional Professor, and Senior professor levels with expertise in architectural engineering or closely related disciplines.
The successful applicant will teach primarily at the undergraduate level in support of the Architectural Engineering program; advise and mentor undergraduate students; participate in departmental activities; and serve the profession.
The primary responsibility of this position is to support the Architectural Engineering capstone design sequence through the instruction and coordination of one or more lecture and laboratory sections associated with AREN 401 (Architectural Engineering Design I) and AREN 402 (Architectural Engineering Design II), as needed.
The successful applicant will mentor Architectural Engineering student design teams whose members assume discipline-specific roles in building mechanical systems, building structural systems, building electrical systems, and construction/project management during the integrated design of buildings and their systems. The successful applicant will work closely with faculty, industry mentors, and external jurors. Responsibilities include guiding students through the engineering design process, fostering integration among architectural engineering subdisciplines, ensuring appropriate consideration of applicable engineering codes and standards, evaluating student work, and promoting professional standards of engineering practice. While expertise in any of these areas is welcome, candidates with experience in building structural systems are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will also contribute to program assessment and continuous improvement efforts by evaluating student work using established assessment rubrics, assisting with the collection and management of assessment artifacts, supporting the documentation of student achievement of program outcomes, and participating in activities that support ABET accreditation.
Additional responsibilities may include collaborating with faculty within the Department and across the College of Engineering, engaging with industry partners, supporting student organizations and project teams, and participating in departmental service activities as appropriate.

The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University is among the leading civil and environmental engineering departments in the nation. The department currently includes 55 tenured and tenure-track faculty members and 22 Academic Professional Track faculty members and serves more than 900 undergraduate and 370 graduate students. Qualifications
Applicants must possess significant professional experience in one or more areas of architectural engineering, including building mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems; building structural systems; building electrical and lighting systems; construction/project management; building envelopes and enclosures; building acoustics; emerging building technologies; or closely related disciplines.
Because this position supports the Architectural Engineering capstone design sequence, preference will be given to candidates with substantial experience in the design, coordination, and delivery of integrated building projects involving multiple architectural engineering subdisciplines. While candidates from all areas of architectural engineering are encouraged to apply, experience in building structural systems is strongly preferred.
Professional licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in an engineering discipline related to Architectural Engineering is strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to mentor student design teams, evaluate engineering design work, communicate effectively with students, faculty, and industry professionals, and contribute to assessment and continuous-improvement activities within an ABET-accredited engineering program.
Preference will also be given to candidates with experience working in consulting engineering firms, integrated building design environments, engineering project delivery, and outcomes-based assessment or continuous improvement processes.
Candidates with degrees in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or closely related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
For appointments at Visiting Lecturer, Visiting Senior Lecturer, Visiting Instructional Assistant Professor, Visiting Instructional Associate Professor, Visiting Instructional Professor, or Senior Professor level, applicants must possess a doctoral degree or a master's degree in an appropriate discipline together with significant teaching experience at the college level or an extraordinary record of accomplishment in professional practice. Additional requirements may apply depending on the specific faculty title.
For appointments at the Visiting Professor of the Practice level, applicants must possess, at a minimum, a master's degree appropriate for the field in which the faculty member will teach and significant teaching experience at the college level or an extraordinary record of accomplishment in professional practice.
