Availability depends on the employer and specific internship program.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on during a remote Environmental Engineering internship?

As a remote Environmental Engineering intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects such as data analysis for environmental impact assessments, literature reviews on sustainability practices, and assisting with the preparation of technical reports. Interns often support ongoing research, help develop environmental models, and may participate in virtual team meetings to discuss project progress. Collaboration is typically done through digital platforms, so strong communication and self-management skills are important. You'll gain exposure to real-world environmental challenges while working closely with experienced engineers and project managers.

What is a remote environmental engineering internship?

A remote environmental engineering internship is an opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in environmental engineering while working from a location outside the traditional office, typically from home. Interns may assist in projects such as environmental assessments, data analysis, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory compliance, all through digital platforms and communication tools. This type of internship allows individuals to develop professional skills, build their resume, and network within the industry without the need to relocate or commute. Remote internships are especially valuable for those seeking flexible work arrangements or exposure to global projects. Tasks may vary depending on the organization, but generally focus on supporting environmental protection and sustainable engineering solutions.

  • Develop models to simulate large-scale water system operations and stochastic hydrologic modeling.
  • Perform data processing, quality control, and automation using scripts and tools.
  • Lead small projects or task orders of moderate complexity.
  • Contribute to proposal development and sections of larger proposals.
  • Share work internally and externally through presentations and conference papers.
  • Make informed decisions based on data, best practices, and team input.
