Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Environmental Health Supervisor assists the Environmental Health (EH) Manager in overseeing the environmental health programs, staff, conducting investigations, inspections, and enforcement of regulations related to public health and safety. Will lead in developing training programs, coordinating responses to environmental health hazards, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health or academic field relating to biological science, engineering, clinical or general science.
  2. Five (5) years of experience working with a local, State or Tribal environmental health program.
    1. Master's degree preferred
    2. Tribal experience preferred.
  3. Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian.
  4. Strong understanding of environmental health principles, regulations, and best practices.
  5. The ability to conduct inspections, analyze data and communicate effectively.
  6. Current valid driver's license.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Provides general environmental health technical support and assistance to communities throughout the Bristol Bay region. Support is provided in the form of onsite consultations and surveys, as well as via telephone and through written correspondence on all matters related to environmental health. Technical assistance is also provided to other programs within BBAHC upon request or as needed.
  2. Serves as the Injury Prevention Program supervisor.
  3. Supervises Environmental Health Specialists and interns.
  4. Assists with day-to-day management and operations of the state certified drinking water laboratory in Dillingham.
  5. Technical advisor to the Remote Maintenance Program.
  6. Conducts thorough assessments of sanitation systems, identifying violations, and recommending corrective actions.
  7. Assesses community health clinics, food establishments, and Head Start centers according to all applicable standards.
  8. Writes technical reports as needed.Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental health laws and regulations.


POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some weekends or evening hours are necessary in emergency situations. Attendance in accordance with the BBAHC Attendance policy is a job requirement.
