Job description

Job Summary:

The Facilities Environmental Compliance Program Manager is a strategic leadership role responsible for owning and continuously advancing the environmental compliance program across PowerSecureโ€™s growing portfolio of manufacturing sites (Durham DI campuses, PowerFab, Ball Ground, Waco Warehouse, and future expansions). This position provides direct supervision of the Facilities Environmental Compliance Team and serves as the companyโ€™s primary authority on all facility-related environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
The successful candidate will proactively lead facility permitting and compliance efforts, anticipate regulatory impacts of rapid business growth, and drive measurable program improvements while managing people, consultants, and budgets in a fast-paced environment. Additional responsibilities include delivering accurate Southern Company corporate reporting, coordinating data
requests, and supporting manufacturing-related environmental initiatives.
Success in this role requires strategic foresight, full ownership of facility environmental programs, proven team leadership, building and maintaining strong internal and external partner relationships, demonstrating and promoting a culture of compliance, and the ability to operate with confident and credible presence in a dynamic, high-visibility setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in engineering, environmental science, or other relevant scientific discipline; Advanced degree in engineering or environmental science/management preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in managing facility environmental compliance programs and permitting for multi site, multi-state manufacturing operations
  • Ability to effectively manage direct reports and consultants.
  • Prior experience in industrial, manufacturing, or energy industries is required
  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory requirements for permitting process and facility compliance
  • Ability to write, complete, and submit permit applications to regulatory agencies, including working across business functions to complete applications and submittals in a timely manner
  • Ability to work with multiple parties to complete application and submit to agencies in a timely manner
  • Ability to conduct training and other presentations to a wide variety of internal and external audiences
  • Ability to convey status and escalate compliance and permitting matters to upper management
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic computer skills (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are required.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Work experience or demonstrated understanding of air, water, and waste environmental regulatory compliance is required; this includes knowledge of the following: air compliance, tank compliance, SPCC plans and spill response, hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, wastewater and stormwater management, Drinking Water, SWPPP, Tier II, and GHG reporting.
  • Experience working with environmental consulting firms and/or regulatory/governmental agencies is preferred
  • Prefer experience with manufacturing facility operations and maintenance, environmental monitoring and reporting, and environmental event response
  • Work experience in the implementation and management of process water or wastewater chemistry programs or equivalent experience is preferred
  • Prior experience in working under facility O&M and capital budgetary constraints

Essential Functions:

  • Own and steward the environmental compliance program focused on continuous improvement, scalability, and continuous audit/inspection readiness across all PowerSecure manufacturing and warehouse sites, ensuring 100% adherence to federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a proactive, transparent, employee-owned compliance culture.
  • Independently design, implement, and maintain robust internal controls, processes, procedures, compliance calendars, and record-keeping systems that not only meet current requirements but also scale with the companyโ€™s growth.
  • Provide strategic leadership by anticipating regulatory and operational needs, proactively coordinating resources, and driving measurable, forward-leaning program improvements ahead of schedule.
  • Serve as the primary authority and single point of contact for all environmental permitting, procedures, agency interactions (EPA, NCDEQ, etc.), external audits, and internal inspections; personally build and maintain strong, collaborative
    relationships with regulatory agencies and corporate stakeholders.
  • Initiate and sustain regular, proactive engagement with Manufacturing leadership, corporate EHS, plant managers, and other internal customers, positioning the Environmental team as a trusted business partner that enables growth.
  • Continuously identify, evaluate, and deploy industry best practices across the compliance program to achieve operational excellence and risk management.
  • Drive plant-wide environmental awareness through targeted training programs, effective communication, facility assessments, and visible leadership-by-example; lead site participation in all corporate environmental initiatives.
