Senior Tax Accountant/Supervisor

Location: Rochester, NY office. *Work where you do your best work. At Insero, you can choose to be in the office daily or work in a hybrid schedule of up to 3 remote days per week, depending on workload and office needs.


*Our office is located in the heart of downtown Rochester. There is easy access to great restaurants and events, and featured amenities such as collaboration spaces, game room and firm paid for underground parking in a secure garage. We also have comfortable break rooms fully stocked with complimentary drinks and snacks.


Department Overview:

The Rochester Tax practice at Insero is not a high volume 1040 practice but is instead a tax practice focusing on complex tax compliance and projects within Fortune 500 companies as well as tax consulting across small and middle market companies including: multi-state, multi-national, real estate, manufacturing (amongst other industries) companies. Majority of our small business clients are in the 1-10 million sales volume and middle market practice are closely held businesses in the 20 million – 200 million+ sales volume many of which have global and multi state issues.


Responsibilities:

· Preparing difficult personal and business returns.

· Reviews tax returns/work files for completeness, accuracy and compliance; communicates with and trains staff on areas needing improvement.

· Monitors tax deadlines to ensure that returns are prepared on a timely basis; communicates with managers during the preparation process to identify any tax issues needing addressing and to pull jobs so that they reach the technical review stage timely.

· Performs tax research and helps train staff to do the same; schedules annual tax research training session for all tax staff.

· Understanding and completing the steps in conducting research projects; preparing written conclusions, subject to Manager or Principal review.

· Assisting audit and accounting staff with non-complex tax questions.

· Understanding tax accruals.

· Responding to IRS or state tax notices.

· Training interns/staff to be able to prepare effective responses to tax notices and reviews for accuracy and supervising workflow of Tax Accountants/Interns on less complex returns.

· Identifying problems and opportunities for research or work other than compliance.



Requirements

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (Masters in Tax is a plus) in accounting is required, a CPA license is a plus; along with a minimum of 3 years tax experience within a public accounting firm. Ideal tax experience servicing complex individuals / 1040 returns and business clients (mix of S Corps and Partnership returns)


Qualified candidates will have experience with all different entity types. Have a working knowledge of Paperless systems such as GoFileRoom and tax software such as Caseware & ProSystems. Have a professional demeanor with excellent communication skills. Enjoy working with people and understand the importance of nurturing and building the firm's clientele. Be ethical, conscientious, detail oriented, and well organized.



Salary Information:
In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share that the base pay range for this position is $70,000 - $92,000 annually. Please keep in mind that this range is base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position such as eligibility to receive discretionary spot bonus incentives. This range is a reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and/or education and geographic location. It is not typical for a candidate to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the capabilities and experience of the candidate. Incentives, if any, depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and firm performance.
