About the Job
This position will cover both MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital locations.
Status: Part-time, 16-hours per week (does not offer benefits or PTO)
Availability Needed/Gift Shop Hours: Mon-Fri 9:00am-8:00pm and Sat-Sun 10:00am-5:00pm
General Summary of Position
Assists gift shop customers with purchases and operates cash register.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists customers in locating and selecting merchandise. May oversee the work of volunteer staff and help keep them informed of valid necessary shop information.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Works cooperatively with the Auxiliary.
  • Keeps shelves dusted and cleaned with glass cleaner. Replenishes merchandise as necessary.
  • Maintains shop security to minimize losses. Counts all money in back stockroom. Securely locks the cabinet makes sure deposit has dropped into safe closes and locks stockroom door when finished. Puts all keys in assigned spots. Makes sure all closing procedures have been followed and gift shop doors are securely locked when leaving.
  • Operates cash register. Performs sales by charge payroll deductions and cash. Receives payments and makes change. Assists volunteers when necessary.
  • Responsible for managing and restocking drinks candy snacks etc on assigned shift. At end of shift organizes and straightens all shop merchandise.
  • May use POS system to input new inventory. Includes data entry pricing labeling and stock control.
  • Verifies register tapes totals the shift sales enters in log and envelopes money. Reconciles daily deposit as necessary. Closes out cash register and puts money in envelope. Obtains batch report on charge machine.
  • May operate Lottery machine. May sell Scratch Off tickets. Receives payment and makes change. At end of shift takes reports. Puts money and scratch off tickets in envelopes.

Minimal Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience
  • 1-2 years Customer Service experience required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
