Job description

Position Summary

Modern Machining is hiring an entry-level Machinist Helper team member who is reliable, coachable, and ready to learn. This is a trainable role designed for someone who wants to grow into a skilled production worker. Day-to-day duties will vary across the shop floor, giving you exposure to multiple areas of the operation.

Typical tasks include sweeping floors, packing finished product, deburring parts, and learning to run a machine. The right candidate doesn't need prior shop experience — they need a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the willingness to be trained up.

Key Responsibilities

•Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area — sweeping, removing chips and scrap, and keeping aisles clear.

•Pack, label, and prepare finished parts for shipment per work order specifications.

•Deburr parts using hand tools and benchtop equipment to meet quality standards.

•Learn to operate production machinery under supervision; progress toward independent run of one or more machines.

•Follow all safety procedures, including PPE requirements and lock-out / tag-out rules.

•Inspect parts visually for obvious defects and flag concerns to the lead.

•Support other production team members as needed and complete additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

•Reliable attendance and punctuality — shows up every day, on time.

•Willingness to learn and accept hands-on training and feedback.

•Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs throughout the shift.

•Comfort working in a manufacturing environment (noise, machinery, oils/coolants).

•Basic English reading and math (measurements, counts, work orders).

•Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

•Any prior exposure to a shop, warehouse, or production environment.

•Familiarity with hand tools, calipers, or basic measuring instruments.

•Forklift experience (not required).

•Mechanical aptitude or hands-on hobbies (auto, woodworking, fabrication).

Growth Path

This role is designed as a training pipeline. Strong performers can advance from general labor into machine operation, set-up support, and eventually skilled production roles. Modern Machining is investing in someone who wants to build a long-term trade — not just fill a slot.

You should be proficient in:

  • Machine Setups for Production Runs
  • Manual Machining Skills
  • High School / GED
