Job description

What we do at SPS:

SPS helps condominium communities make confident, well-informed decisions about their aging buildings and shared property. With nearly 40 years of experience in exterior restoration and building envelope projects, SPS partners with boards and property managers to plan and execute long-term solutions that protect property values and support the future of the community.

 

What our Safety and Risk Manager will do:

As our Safety and Risk Manager, your role will have four main components: 1) Leading the Safety Team and building upon SPS’s “Safety First and Zero Incidents” culture. 2) Managing Insurance requirements within SPS and working with providers. 3) Oversee the Independent Contractor program. 4) Managing all aspects of the SPS vehicle fleet. The responsibilities are expected to include:

 Safety Team Management:

  •  Managing goal setting and performance of: Senior Safety Manager and Independent Contractor Liaison
  • Oversee management of SPS’s safety programs and procedures in order to ensure every employee returns home safely every night.
  • Completing safety inspections at job sites in New England
  • Holding one-on-one safety training sessions for new SPS employees.
  • Build Safety Programs in expansion markets as needed outside of New England.
  • Identifying gaps in programs and implementing strategies to close them. 

 Insurance Risk Mitigation:

  • Work with the IC Liaison to ensure any contractor working with SPS is properly insured
  • Manage relationships with SPS’s insurance providers and review current policies and renewals to make sure we’re always getting the best coverage and rates.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for insurance-related questions and issues.
  • Create and manage efficiencies within the department

Fleet Management:

  • Purchase and Sales of all company vehicles
  • Oversee auto claims and repairs
  • Coordinate vehicle service with drivers.
  • Holding an intro to vehicle safety training for new authorized SPS drivers.
  • Coordinate annual driver safety training.

Performing other incidental and related duties as required and assigned. A driver’s license and access to a vehicle for job-site visits will be required.

A successful Safety and Risk Manager balances these responsibilities through self-motivation, excellent time management, a desire to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of processes, and a strong commitment to “doing the job right.” The Safety and Risk Manager is a full-time, exempt position supervised by the Director of Operations Support.

  • Communication: Has excellent oral and written skills. Builds and maintains strong working relationships with clients, vendors, and employees. Ability to speak and understand Spanish a plus.
  • Problem Solving: Is able to effectively handle a variety of situations that may arise by solving them directly or working with others.
  • Team player: Works harmoniously with co-workers, clients, and vendors with a team-first attitude.
  • Attention to detail: Prioritizes precision and quality over quantity or speed. Pays close attention to detail.
  • Construction Knowledge: Has working knowledge of carpentry, roofing, and painting. Has knowledge of how to operate and maintain construction-related tools and equipment safely. 
  • Insurance Knowledge: Has worked in or closely with the Insurance industry. Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, and Auto policies specifically related to the construction Industry.
  • Technology: Has basic computer skills and is comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience using file sharing platforms like Box is a plus.
