Job description

Intrinsic is an AI robotics group at Google aiming to reimagine the potential of industrial robotics. Our team believes that advances in AI, perception and simulation will redefine what's possible for industrial robotics in the near future - with software and data at the core.
Our mission is to make industrial robotics intelligent, accessible, and usable for millions more businesses, entrepreneurs, and developers. We are a dynamic team of engineers, roboticists, designers, and technologists who are passionate about unlocking the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics.
Role
As a Robotics & Automation Technician at Intrinsic, your work will unlock and unblock the full potential of our existing robotics lab in Mountain View. Ideal candidates have a bias for action and aren't afraid of solving unexpected needs of the team. You will navigate ambiguity and learn new skills as the complexity of our work increases over time.
In this dedicated, hands-on role, you will be working on our 'Factory of the Future' project and should expect a wide range of responsibilities. You will heavily focus on the execution of mechanical and electrical assemblies, field-based tasks, building automation cells, and assisting with the critical lab setup. Additionally, you will be responsible for the smooth operation of our facility by handling daily lab maintenance, inventory logistics, and organizational work including shipping, sourcing, and purchasing efforts. By taking ownership of these crucial day-to-day operational tasks, your work will be a force multiplier to the efforts of the team.
How your work moves the mission forward
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers, product managers, software developers, and researchers to build, maintain, and refine our electronic manufacturing automation systems from the ground up.
  • Execute mechanical and electrical assemblies for rapid, innovative R&D robotic automation workcells.
  • Perform electrical testing and troubleshoot existing automation cells to validate hardware integrity and resolve operational issues.
  • Manage daily lab maintenance, inventory logistics, and hardware-related office tasks (shipping, sourcing and purchasing) to establish a highly efficient working environment.
  • Read and execute from hardware specifications and schematics to assemble and wire industrial control panels, robotic peripherals, and HMI/ PLC hardware.
  • Source and integrate best-in-class technology products into automation workcells.
  • Document and communicate your work clearly for internal stakeholders.
Skills you will need to be successful
  • Associate degree or 3 years of professional experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, and debugging of lab or manufacturing systems.
  • Experience installing and operating common industrial robot arms (e.g., KUKA, FANUC, ABB, UR).
  • Proficiency in interpreting electrical and pneumatic schematics, with the ability to assemble industrial control panels.
  • Experience managing lab maintenance, hardware inventory, and logistics processes.
  • Willingness to work in ambiguity, select a direction, and drive towards a solution.
Skills that will differentiate your candidacy
  • Experience with PLC programming or troubleshooting (e.g., Beckhoff, PILZ) and motion controllers.
  • Professional experience with 3D printing, prototyping and machining (e.g., Drilling, Cutting, Soldering).
  • Professional experience with CAD software for reviewing mechanical designs, layouts, and electrical systems.
  • Demonstrable experience implementing safety circuitry and knowledge of industrial safety standards (e.g., ANSI/RIA R15.06, ISO 10218).
  • Experience modifying or designing basic electrical and pneumatic schematics for automation equipment.
  • Valid OSHA forklift certification.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

The hourly wage for this full-time position is between $47.69 - $65.05(USD) +15% bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter will share more about the specific hourly wage range for your targeted location and role during the hiring process.
