Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Job Description

This Electrical Engineer role focuses on designing and detailing motor control panels, PLC panels, and associated control systems for material handling equipment used in parcel post operations. You will create precise AutoCAD 2D and AutoCAD Electrical drawings, including power schematics and field device layouts, to support large-scale automation projects in an engineering- and technology-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed electrical design drawings using AutoCAD 2D and AutoCAD Electrical for control systems and hardware.
• Design motor control panels, PLC panels, and associated control systems for material handling equipment used in parcel post applications.
• Develop detailed drawings for 480V power schematics, ensuring accurate representation of power distribution and protection.
• Prepare detailed 120V power schematics for control and auxiliary systems.
• Produce I/O drawings that clearly define inputs, outputs, and signal interfaces for PLC and control systems.
• Create field device layout drawings that accurately position sensors, actuators, and other devices within the system.
• Apply UL508A and NEC electrical codes and standards in all designs to ensure compliance and safety.
• Contribute to control panel layout and hardware design, optimizing for reliability, maintainability, and ease of installation.
• Collaborate with engineering and software teams to integrate electrical designs with PLC programming and software systems.
• Support turnkey control and software solutions by delivering accurate, high-quality electrical documentation.
• Maintain a strong focus on attention to detail and customer satisfaction in all design work.
• Participate in continuous improvement of design standards, templates, and processes within the engineering team.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated electrical design and hardware design engineering experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD design, with strong skills in creating detailed 2D electrical drawings.
• AutoCAD Electrical experience, preferably with hands-on use in control panel and system design.
• Experience in control panel layout and hardware design for industrial or material handling applications.
• Some knowledge and understanding of control systems, including PLC-based architectures.
• Basic understanding of electrical codes and standards, specifically UL508A and NEC.
• Ability to interpret and develop 480V and 120V power schematics and I/O drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality engineering documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with material handling systems, airport baggage handling systems, or similar automation environments is beneficial.
• Experience in controls engineering, including exposure to PLC panels and associated control hardware, is a plus.
• Familiarity with UL508A-compliant industrial control panels and NEC-based facility electrical systems.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team that includes electrical engineers, PLC programmers, and software engineers.
• Interest in growing within electrical engineering or bridging into adjacent fields such as PLC programming, software systems, or control panel build.
• Strong sense of ownership over design quality and alignment with a performance-driven, customer-focused culture.

You will work in a modern office environment that was purpose-built for an engineering and technology-focused organization. The company has about 100 employees and approximately 50 engineers, creating a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere. The business specializes in controls upgrades and integration for airport baggage handling systems, material handling systems, and large industrial customers, and is recognized as a market leader in electrical engineering, PLC programming, software systems, and control panel build. The role is office-based with no field travel required for this position, as a dedicated PLC team handles most of the travel. This is a Permanent position based out of Louisville, KY.

The pay range for this position is $76000.00 - $80000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
