How much do entry software developer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 21, 2026, the average yearly pay for entry software developer in Baltimore, MD is $99,628.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $63,100.00 and $105,300.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an entry software developer?

Entry software developers are professionals who are new to the software development field, typically with less than two years of experience. They are responsible for writing, testing, and maintaining code under the supervision of more experienced developers. Entry-level developers often work on smaller tasks or projects while learning best practices, tools, and methodologies used in software engineering. This role is ideal for recent graduates or individuals transitioning into tech, as it provides foundational experience and growth opportunities within a development team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry software developer?

To thrive as an Entry Software Developer, you need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as Java, Python, or JavaScript), algorithms, and data structures, usually backed by a computer science degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with development tools like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and basic knowledge of databases or cloud platforms is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, willingness to learn, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills enable new developers to contribute efficiently to projects, adapt to evolving technologies, and collaborate successfully within development teams.

What types of projects and technologies are entry software developers typically assigned to when starting out?

As an entry software developer, you can expect to work on foundational tasks such as bug fixes, feature enhancements, or simple modules within larger applications. You will often be introduced to the company's tech stack, which may include popular programming languages like Java, Python, or JavaScript, and tools for version control and collaboration, such as Git and Jira. These initial assignments are designed to help you become familiar with the codebase and development workflow while supporting more experienced team members. Collaboration with mentors and participation in code reviews are common, providing learning opportunities and feedback to help you grow in your role.

Can I be an entry software developer with no experience?

Entry software developer roles often require some foundational knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++, but many employers are willing to consider candidates with little to no professional experience if they demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, relevant coursework, or personal projects. Gaining certifications, building a portfolio, and learning tools like Git can improve your chances of securing an entry-level position without prior work experience.

What do entry-level software developers make?

Entry-level software developers typically earn between $50,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on location, industry, and company size. Starting salaries often increase with skills in programming languages, such as Java, Python, or C++, and familiarity with development tools and environments.

Job description

Full Stack Software Engineer, Offensive Cyber Platforms Make an Impact Where It Matters Most

At Intelliforce, we build software that helps mission teams operate faster, smarter, and with more precision in highโ€‘consequence environments. In this role you will develop and maintain largeโ€‘scale, distributed web applications that support mission tooling, highโ€‘performance data processing, and cloudโ€‘native operations. This is an excellent fit for an engineer who enjoys modern fullโ€‘stack development, scalable backend architecture, and solving hard technical problems where performance and reliability matter.

What Makes This Opportunity Stand Out

This role gives you the chance to work on serious engineering problems with a unique edge. Your primary focus will be building robust systems with JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, and modern DevOps automation, while the team also operates in the offensive cyber space. For engineers with a background or real interest in reverse engineering, vulnerability research, or securityโ€‘focused development, this role offers the chance to apply strong engineering discipline to complex cyber challenges.

Hereโ€™s What Your Dayโ€‘toโ€‘Day Could Include
  • Develop and maintain largeโ€‘scale, distributed web applications using Node.js, TypeScript, and Python
  • Architect scalable microservices and backend systems that support highโ€‘performance data processing and communication
  • Use DevOps automation and Infrastructure as Code to deploy and manage services in commercial cloud environments
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines to support secure, reliable software delivery
  • Collaborate with security researchers to apply engineering best practices to offensive cyber and vulnerability research efforts
  • Work directly with users and analysts to improve tooling and mission capabilities
  • Help shape software architecture in environments that demand scalability, resilience, and operational reliability
Minimum Qualifications
  • Clearance: Top Secret Clearance with Polygraph, must be active. We do not have the ability to sponsor clearances
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen. We cannot sponsor visas
  • 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelorโ€™s degree in a technical discipline
  • Four additional years of relevant experience may be substituted in place of a Bachelorโ€™s degree
Required Skills
  • Professional software development experience in JavaScript, TypeScript, and Python
  • Knowledge of building and maintaining enterpriseโ€‘grade, distributed web applications and system architectures
  • Experience with DevOps automation, cloud service providers such as AWS, and Infrastructure as Code methodologies
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering principles including version control, testing frameworks, and Agile workflows
  • Experience with highโ€‘side development environments and nonโ€‘attributed network configurations
Desired Skills
  • Experience or interest in offensive cyber operations, vulnerability research, and software reverse engineering
  • Knowledge of Android application architecture and experience or interest in mobile vulnerability research
  • Experience with lowโ€‘level programming in C or C++
  • Experience using debuggers such as gdb or similar tools
Compensation Range

Salary: $142,000.00 โ€“ $182,000.00. The salary range reflects an estimate based on current market trends and may be adjusted based on factors such as the candidateโ€™s experience, skills, and qualifications. The final offer will be tailored after a thorough evaluation of the candidateโ€™s background and suitability for the role.

Benefits
  • Ample PTO to rest and rechargeโ€”plus all federal holidays and your birthday off, just because.
  • Medical plans including options with zero deductible or premium for employees.
  • Generous 401(k) with immediate vesting.
  • Bonus opportunities, from profit sharing to quarterly awards and Presidentโ€™s Club recognition.
  • Culture of collaboration, connection, and fun, with regular team activities beyond the work.
