Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled AI Developer/Engineer (Senior Software Developer, Application) to support the design, development, implementation, and optimization of advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) solutions for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The successful candidate will work closely with data scientists, software engineers, and other technical stakeholders to develop production-ready AI/ML applications, analyze complex datasets, improve model performance, and integrate AI capabilities into secure and scalable software environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain machine learning models and AI algorithms.
  • Implement and optimize AI/ML solutions for operational and business requirements.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, DevOps engineers, and other technical teams to integrate AI/ML models into production systems.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights.
  • Develop, tune, test, and continuously improve model performance, accuracy, scalability, and reliability.
  • Evaluate emerging AI and machine learning technologies and recommend appropriate approaches for project requirements.
  • Apply a strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical methods, model development practices, and AI engineering principles.
  • Develop solutions using appropriate deep learning frameworks and modern AI/ML technologies.
  • Build and maintain reproducible AI/ML development and deployment processes.
  • Document AI/ML models, experiments, methodologies, configurations, results, and operational processes.
  • Support model validation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization.
  • Integrate AI/ML solutions with existing software applications, data platforms, APIs, and cloud environments.
  • Implement infrastructure and deployment automation using tools such as Terraform.
  • Develop and maintain Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Use Git-based source control and modern software development practices.
  • Incorporate observability, monitoring, logging, metrics, and performance tracking into AI/ML engineering and production environments.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and optimize applications and models for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Stay current with advances in AI, ML, deep learning, MLOps, software engineering, and related technologies.
