Entry Level Mechanic - Public Works
The Opportunity
The Town of Mansfield, Connecticut (www.mansfieldct.gov) is seeking an entry level mechanic for its Public Works Department. Entry level mechanics perform routine maintenance and repair work on vehicles and equipment, as well as other tasks as assigned.
About Us
The Town of Mansfield's Department of Public Works provides services for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Town's fleet and infrastructure such as roads; sidewalks; bridges; solid waste facilities; park and recreation areas; athletic fields; sewers and sewer pump stations; and vehicles and equipment. The following departments, divisions, and programs are reflected under Public Works: Engineering Division which includes sewers; Operations Division which includes equipment maintenance, grounds maintenance, road maintenance, transfer station and tree warden; Solid Waste Division which includes trash and recycling contracted services.
Mansfield, with a population of approximately 26,000, is located in the Northeastern portion of the state, better known as Connecticut's Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor. Home to the University of Connecticut, Mansfield offers the unique blend of urban (Downtown Storrs - www.mansfieldmdp.org), suburban, and rural living in a university setting. Mansfield has a variety of cultural and educational offerings, as well as an abundance of natural resources ideal for activities such as hiking, cycling, and kayaking. Mansfield is a Council-Manager form of government, with the Town Manager serving as the Chief Executive Officer responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Town.
Work Schedule & Location
These positions are normally scheduled 40 hours per week. The selected candidates will normally work 6:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday through Friday. Selected candidates must also be available to respond to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays due to inclement weather events and other exigent circumstances.
The reporting location is the Town of Mansfield Public Works Garage, 230 Clover Mill Road, Mansfield Center, CT 06250.
Compensation
The hourly range is $28.29-$31.65/ hr. The Town of Mansfield provides an extremely competitive benefits package. Mansfield participates in the Connecticut Municipal Retirement System (CMERS), a defined pension plan, a variety of other benefits such as medical, vision, dental, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, tuition assistance, and paid leave.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by vocational training and experience in repairing automotive equipment.Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Connecticut. Must provide their own tools - specialty tools will be provided by the Town.
