Job description

The YMCA of Central Texas is hiring After School Counselors (18 y/o or older) to support elementary school students in our after-school program across Leander ISD. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with children, brings strong energy and patience to a group setting, and can create a safe, positive environment where kids can learn, play, and grow.

Schedule and Pay
  • Part-time schedule: Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM
  • Summer schedule transitions to a full-day program
  • Pay rate: $13.00-$15.50 per hour, based on experience

What You'll Do
  • Provide active supervision for groups of children in an after-school setting
  • Build positive relationships with children, parents, staff, and school representatives
  • Help lead daily curriculum, games, and youth activities
  • Create a fun, structured, and supportive environment for K-5 students
  • Respond calmly and appropriately in urgent or unexpected situations
  • Serve as a positive role model for children and families
Minimum Requirements

To be considered, applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Be available to work Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM
  • Be able to pass a background check and drug screen
  • Be able to actively supervise groups of children in an after-school licensed childcare environment
  • Be able to communicate clearly and professionally with children, parents, school staff, and coworkers
  • Be dependable, energetic, patient, and comfortable working with children from a variety of backgrounds and abilities
  • Be able to stay calm, use good judgment, and maintain a safe environment at all times
  • Able to pass a background check and drug screen
Preferred Background

While this is an entry-level role, we are specifically looking for candidates who can demonstrate experience working with or supporting children, students and families. Helpful backgrounds include:
