Job description

The Oswego County Highway and Solid Waste Departments have immediate openings for Medium Equipment Operators to perform manual work of ordinary difficulty that may involve the responsibility for acting as a work leader over a small group of laborers or highway workers, or for the safe and efficient operation and care of moderately complex motor equipment.  Employees in this class are responsible for ensuring that the activities assigned to their group are being accomplished.  Supervision exercised by the employee varies with the occasion.  The employee may also be required to perform recurring manual duties related to the operation of the equipment operated.  
 
Qualifications:
High school diploma or possession of an equivalency diploma and either: Completion of NCCER Core and Level 1 – Heavy Equipment Operations Credential, AWS –Entry Level Welder Qualification, or NCCER Core and Welding Level 1 and Level 2 Credentials; OR Six (6) months of experience in either general labor, construction work, driving trucks (GVW 18,000 lbs or over), road building, grounds maintenance, operation of various automotive equipment such as roller, small dozer, etc., or any work of a related nature.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: 
  • Possession of valid New York State drivers license at time of appointment.  
  • Possession of a Class B New York State drivers license within six (6) months of appointment.  
  • Once obtained, maintenance of Class B license required throughout the course of employment.
 
Pay Rate: $27.45 per hour plus competitive benefit package including health, life, dental and vision insurance, and NYS Retirement.
