Job description

Description The City of Anaheim is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Administrative Intern II - GIS. Under direct supervision, this individual performs a variety of entry-level professional administrative staff work, gradually increasing in level of difficulty and responsibility as the incumbent receives on-the-job training related to the business, technological, engineering and operational activities of a department. The ideal candidate will have completed multiple courses related to geographic information systems and will bring a strong eagerness to learn new GIS tools, technologies, and workflows in support of the City's operations.

Note: This is a part time position averaging 20 hours per week, but no minimum number of weekly hours is guaranteed. The scheduling of working hours can be arranged around class schedules. Working hours are Monday - Friday, between 8:00AM and 5:00PM.

Candidates must attach a copy of their current transcript (official or unofficial) to their application. Students enrolled in classes at a University of California school may attach a copy of their study list or other school generated document showing currently enrolled classes. Essential Functions Maintain GIS data and maps using ArcGIS software. Learn to utilize the full suite of Esri ArcGIS technology (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, Field Maps, Survey123, Dashboards, etc.) to create, edit, analyze, and maintain the City's geospatial data and maps. Assist with the collection, digitization, and quality control of geospatial data layers, such as infrastructure, land use, facilities, and asset inventories

Perform geocoding, spatial analysis, and geodatabase queries, help develop GIS dashboards, story maps, and web applications to support departmental and public-facing initiatives. Perform a variety of entry-level administrative staff duties related to areas such as administrative regulations, policies, processes, procedures, systems, methods, reports, surveys, and forms, while learning the fundamental mission, structure, and operations associated with the assigned department. Research problems, discrepancies, and responds to routine inquiries related to the business, technological, and operational activities of the assigned department.

Effectively utilizes the capabilities and functions of standard and specialized office software applications such as data management, spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing in completing assigned projects. Prepare reports, presentations, operational documents, and correspondence containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content related to business, technological, and operational activities subject to review and editing by higher-level staff members. May assist in updating web site contents and making suggestions on information layout.

May perform a wide variety of para-professional, technical, and clerical tasks during peak workload periods or in the absence of assigned staff. May conduct field work. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications Candidates must be currently enrolled in upper division or graduate level courses in an accredited college or university program; course work in the area of geographic information systems, computer science, or related field. Candidates must have knowledge of basic theory and principles of organization and management capabilities of standard computer systems, software, and hardware computer software such as word-processing, spreadsheet, or database management; basic methods and techniques of research and management analysis; elementary statistics; techniques of data collection; fact-finding methods and procedures; proper business English, punctuation, spelling, and grammatical usage; customer service techniques for public contact in person, on the phone, and in written; communications; recordkeeping procedures. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to gather pertinent facts and data, make thorough analysis, and arrive at sound conclusions; apply formulas in computing statistical measures; understand, interpret, and apply pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; effectively utilize standard office software and computer equipment in the performance of duties; provide technical assistance to others; work effectively and cooperatively with employees, and the public; make accurate observations and obtain objective information; prepare and present reports in written, oral, graphic, and tabular form; make routine oral presentations in a group setting; learn and effectively utilized specialized computer software and systems related to assigned function; learn the policies, processes, and procedures related to assigned department; work independently and meet deadlines; multi-task and be detail oriented, well organized and a self-starter.
