Job description

Amazing Career Moments Happen Here
Transforming the insurance industry is ambitious, we know. That's why at Applied, we're building a team that shows up every day ready to learn, willing to try new things, and driven to deliver innovative software and services that make us indispensable to our customers - all within a culture built on values that make us indispensable to each other too. With 40+ years of experience in the Insurtech game, we're not just redefining what's achievable, we're creating a place where amazing career moments are made possible.
Position Overview
Build the courses that thousands of insurance professionals learn from. As an Associate Instructional Designer on our Applied University team, you'll own customer-facing eLearning courseware end to end - storyboarding, building in Storyline, and shipping it to a live audience. Applied University sits inside Onboarding and Success Services, the group responsible for implementation, product training and customer adoption. You'll work alongside experienced designers, product managers, and subject matter experts, with real ownership of your own course projects from your first quarter. This is an entry-level role. You'll come in with instructional design fundamentals and grow your depth in three areas: our products, the insurance industry, and adult learning practice. You'll get structured mentorship from senior designers while taking on your own projects - planning, researching, and building - with support rather than hand-holding. We're looking for someone genuinely curious about how people learn, who likes making complicated things clear, and who wants to see their work used.
What You'll Do
  • Design and build engaging digital learning - eLearning courses, video, animation and motion graphics, simulations, assessments, and learning games
  • Use AI tools to research and synthesize source material into project roadmaps and course storyboards
  • Grow subject matter expertise in Applied Systems products and the insurance industry
  • Analyze what learners need to know and recommend how to teach it
  • Partner with subject matter experts, product managers, and training teams to develop and release courseware
  • Apply our course development standards so every release meets a consistent quality bar
  • Contribute to planning discussions that shape the strategic direction of customer training
  • Work with our LMS Administrator to publish learning catalogs, tracks, and plans

We're Excited to Learn More About You
  • 1-2 years of instructional design experience, or equivalent - internships, coursework, and portfolio projects count
  • Hands-on experience with at least one authoring tool - Articulate Storyline 360 (essential), Adobe Captivate, or Camtasia
  • Comfort with everyday work tools: Zoom, Slack, Confluence, Jira, and MS Office
  • Grounding in instructional design for adult learners - you can take a topic from analysis through design, build, and evaluation
  • Strong writing and editing - you can make dense material clear
  • Confidence in presenting and facilitating in front of a group
  • A bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, visual design, or a related field - or equivalent experience

You may have other skills or credentials, including:
  • Experience in a technology or software company
  • Familiarity with insurance, or with Applied Systems products
  • Fluency in French or Canadian French

We know that talent comes from all backgrounds and experience levels. We encourage military members and their spouses as well as candidates without a traditional degree to apply!
When You Join Team Applied, You Can Expect
A culture that values who you are - you're a teammate, not just an employee. We thrive on different experiences and celebrate the uniqueness each person brings every day.
We flex our time together, collaborating remotely and in-person to empower our teams to work in the ways that work best for them.
A comprehensive benefits and compensation package that centers our teammates:
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
  • Holiday and Vacation Time
  • Health and Wellness Days
  • A Bonus Day for Your Birthday

Our targeted starting base salary in the United States for this position ranges from $53,000 - $71,000. To determine a new team member's starting pay, we consider a variety of factors, including someone's depth, breadth, and variety of experience, skills, and responsibilities. Depending on the role, team members may also be eligible to participate in additional compensation plans such as bonus and commission.
