Description
Performs intermediate skilled trades work maintaining the grounds and turf in city parks and on city owned property, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Crew Coordinator.
Examples of Duties
  • Operates various grounds keeping equipment; maintains cleanliness of right of ways and park grounds; mulches leaves when necessary.
  • Collects and removes litter found on right of ways and city owned property.
  • Performs pre-trip inspection of vehicles and equipment; maintains tools and equipment.
  • Assists community service workers with assigned tasks.
  • Performs emergency maintenance duties after severe weather including snow removal.
  • Verifies details of daily work assignments with supervisor.
  • Assists with traffic control as needed.

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and moderate experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; comprehensive knowledge of various grounds maintenance equipment; general knowledge of work orders; general knowledge of city geography; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions or decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors and the general public.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, tasting or smelling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
