Job description

The Spray Applicator plays an essential role in The Townsend Company’s vegetation management operations. This position involves applying herbicide treatments to control unwanted vegetation while ensuring safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is physically fit, detail-oriented, and thrives in outdoor work environments.

Key Responsibilities

Herbicide Application and Vegetation Control:

  • Operate and maintain herbicide spraying equipment in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Apply herbicides accurately and efficiently to designated areas based on instructions and operational standards.
  • Identify target vegetation and ensure proper treatment to prevent over-spraying or damaging non-target plants.

Equipment Maintenance and Operation:

  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance on sprayers, pumps, and other equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Mix herbicide solutions correctly, following product labels and safety protocols.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all company and regulatory safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain compliance with environmental laws and regulations during herbicide applications.
  • Document herbicide applications and keep accurate records for compliance purposes.

Team Collaboration and Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure coordination of operations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and problem-solving during field operations.
Additional Duties:
  • Perform routine vegetation clearing tasks as needed to support vegetation management efforts.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to meet physical demands, including lifting, walking long distances, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible schedules, including overtime as needed..
  • Knowledge of essential job functions and responsibilities.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Organizational skills.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to problem solve.
    • Meet all physical requirements of the position.
    • Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations.
    • 18 years of age or older, or 21 if CDL is required.
    • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience with herbicide application or vegetation management.
  • Certification in pesticide or herbicide application (e.g., a Commercial Applicator’s License).
  • Basic mechanical skills to maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
