Position Summary:
This position in working in the 5 boroughs in the city and Westchester identifying electrical structures, testing them for potential stray voltage using a standard fluke multi-meter and high-density voltage detector. Employee will be required to read a utility strip map, drive to location, then walk the outlined coordinates.. Position requires the ability to walk approximately 3-7 miles daily. Time management skills and the ability to work independently are essential functions of this position.
Upon successfully completion of training period employee will be promoted to a Level 1 Technician.
Essential Job functions:
โ€ข Visually examine manholes, pull boxes and service boxes. Some are located in / on sidewalks others are located in the road. standard fluke-multi meter and high-density voltage noting errant current, flaws in utility poles and other outlined criteria.
โ€ข Adhere to safety standards as defined by PPS's safety standards and procedures.
โ€ข Polite and Professional interactions with public.
โ€ข Adhere to PPS dress code.
Position Qualifications:
โ€ข Effective Communication skills.
โ€ข Ability to operate and navigate mapping functions on tablet
โ€ข Ability to act with integrity and respect of personal or public property.
โ€ข Ability to work in all types of weather.
โ€ข Ability to report to jobsite daily and travel to a new location upon request at any time throughout local PPS service territories. (mileage plan reimbursement)
โ€ข Ability to drive between 5 and 100 miles (approximately) daily in a responsible manner.
Prerequisites:
โ€ข Personal transportation available to and from job site. (mileage plan reimbursement)
โ€ข Valid Driver's License for at least one year
โ€ข Ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push and/or pull, twist and make repetitive hand movements. Ability to load, carry, lift, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Sitting or standing for prolonged period of time required. Must have the ability to safely operate a motorized vehicle.
โ€ข Complies with all safety rules and regulations set forth by PPS
โ€ข Pass and retain Operation Qualifications as set forth by the utility companies' standards, employment is contingent on the passing of Operator Qualifications during training
โ€ข If any required OQ is failed upon requalification, the employee will be responsible to schedule training and testing which will be on their own time.
