Description
The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered 100% Staff Nurse to work at our Oakdale Family Medicine Clinic. This position will mainly support our Family Medicine Clinic but could float to other patient specialties/clinic locations including but not limited to: Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and/or Specialty/Outreach Clinics. This position will support the clinic in providing phone triage support, laboratory support, helping with prior authorizations, as well as assist with nurse visits.
Our Family Medicine staff can see everyone in the family, in every generation, from birth, for life. We see patients for pregnancy care, baby wellness, vaccinations, school and athletic physicals, acute care visits, annual physicals, regular check-ups, mental health, on-site laboratory services and more. And when anyone in the family needs specialty care, our family medicine provider connects our patients with the UI Health Care specialist needed. UI Health Care specialists will consult the same medical record used by our family medicine provider so our patient's specialty care is streamlined.
This position will mainly support our patients at Oakdale Clinic but could float to other clinic locations based on clinical needs/hours.

Duties to include:
  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards

Percent of Time: 100% (40 hours per week)
Schedule: Variable hours Monday through Friday, between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM. No wee kend, holiday, or on-call shifts required.
Location: Coralville, IA (and surround clinics/locations based on clinic needs)
Pay Grade: 52 - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans
Salary: $59,315 - $84,060 at 100% time (based on years of experience)
Qualifications
Education
  • An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required
Required Qualifications
  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • Current course completion card in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
Highly Desirable Qualifications
  • Minimum 6 months ambulatory experience.
  • Previous experience with triage phone calls in outlook.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.
  • Previous experience successfully working autonomously.
  • The ability to adapt quickly to different clinical environments and patient populations is crucial; be comfortable working in various departments and clinics such as primary care and specialty services .
Desirable Qualifications
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
  • Previous experience with Epic messages/phone calls/results/fax inbox.
  • Previous experience with prior authorizations.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience.
