Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Technician Trainee

Location: Katy, TX 77493

Duration: 6 months Contract (potential for extension or full-time conversion)

Pay Rate: $19.00 – $22.50/hour on W2 (based on experience)

Shift & Schedule

  • First Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (or until production completion)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday shifts of 8–10 hours)
  • Overtime: Expected

Job Summary

The Mechanical Technician Trainee is responsible for supporting maintenance operations and ensuring timely delivery of equipment based on operational demands. This role focuses on improving maintenance efficiency, reducing downtime, and supporting overall productivity within the maintenance base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain assigned equipment in line with maintenance programs and reliability-centered strategies
  • Follow Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) processes and standard work procedures
  • Record maintenance data including materials, labor, work orders, and equipment performance in system tools
  • Adhere to Technology Lifecycle Management (TLM) standards and processes
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance asset utilization and reduce cost of service delivery
  • Assist in reducing equipment downtime and improving turnaround time
  • Participate in repair, reuse, and maintenance optimization projects
  • Assist in failure investigations when required
  • Tear down, clean, and service tools used in oil rig operations (including wash bay and power washing)
  • Use basic hand tools such as drills and grinders
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and support production/maintenance activities

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of work experience (entry-level candidates also considered)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools
  • Willingness to learn and work in a hands-on environment
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer knowledge (Microsoft Office, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with maintenance systems is a plus
  • Experience with cranes or forklifts is a plus (recertification provided if needed)

Team Environment

  • Team-oriented setting with interdependent tasks and collaboration

Training

  • Training will be provided onsite

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment

Safety Requirements

  • PPE provided: hard hat, safety glasses
  • Candidate must bring steel-toed boots
  • Prescription safety glasses required if applicable

Education

  • No formal education or certification required
  • High school diploma with mechanical aptitude preferred
