Job description

TRIO Upward Bound is seeking an Academic Tutor to support TRIO high school participants who are low-income, first-generation, and college bound. Tutors will provide academic support in core curriculum areas, including:

  • Math
  • Science
  • English
  • Foreign Language
  • Other subject areas as needed

Tutoring will be conducted in small groups or classroom settings. Tutors are expected to:

  • Maintain accurate documentation (e.g., tutoring logs)
  • Communicate regularly with the TRIO Upward Bound Director and Educational Advisor

Skills Needed:

  • Strong ability to connect and build rapport with students from diverse, multicultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned duties responsibly
  • Professionalism in working with school counselors, teachers, and TRIO staff
  • Reliability and commitment to regular scheduling 

Work Schedule:

Tutoring sessions will take place twice a week on:

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays
  • Time: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or 60+ college credit hours
  • At least 1 year of experience tutoring students in TRIO or other federally funded educational programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject area
  • At least 1 year of experience tutoring in school settings
