Job description

Company Overview

Kristen Distributing Company is a local, family-owned beverage distribution company based in the Bryan/College Station area, with a rich history dating back to 1930 when it was founded in Bellville, Texas. Our mission at Kristen Distributing Company is to uphold the highest standards by providing exceptional beverages that align with the manufacturer's marketing concepts. We are dedicated to fostering an environment that encourages personal independence, offers abundant opportunities, and prioritizes the development that enhances the strengths and dignity of our employees and customers.

Position Overview

The Order Selector is responsible for accurately selecting and building customer orders assigned through the Encompass app. Every order that leaves our warehouse passes through this position, and the accuracy of the pick determines whether the route driver delivers a complete order the following morning. This role is measured on accuracy first and productivity second.

Day to day, the Order Selector works assigned orders in the Encompass app, follows the pick path to gather the correct products and quantities, builds and wraps stable pallets, and hands each completed order off to the Quality Assurance Associate for verification. Because a separate QA check follows every build, the expectation is that orders are picked right the first time, and the Order Selector is responsible for correcting any errors QA identifies. The position also reports shortages and product issues to the warehouse supervisor and keeps the pick lanes and staging area clean and clear throughout the shift. Success in this role means every assigned order is picked correctly, built safely, and passed to QA on time before the shift ends.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Order Selection & Building

  • Review assigned customer orders in the Encompass app and follow the designated pick path to gather the correct products.
  • Select the correct product and quantity for each line on the order, working at a pace that meets shift expectations without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Build customer orders by stacking product safely and squarely, wrapping pallets so they travel without shifting, and labeling each completed order correctly.
  • Stage finished orders in the assigned lane or dock position so they are ready for next-day loading and delivery.
  • Continue selecting and building orders until all assignments for the shift are complete and verified.

Accuracy & Quality Control

  • Pick and build each order correctly the first time. A Quality Assurance Associate verifies every completed build, and repeated errors found in QA are addressed as a performance matter.
  • Correct any errors identified by the Quality Assurance Associate promptly, including adding, removing, or re-picking product as directed and rewrapping the pallet before it is released for loading.
  • Inspect product for damage, leaks, and package condition, and pull anything that does not meet quality standards rather than building it into the order.
  • Handle all product with care throughout the pick and build process to prevent damage and breakage.
  • Report inventory shortages, out-of-stocks, mis-slotted product, and pick-lane discrepancies to the warehouse lead or supervisor rather than substituting on your own.

Equipment & Safety

  • Operate pallet jacks and other assigned warehouse equipment safely and in accordance with company policy and training.
  • Complete required pre-use equipment checks and report any malfunction or damage immediately rather than continuing to operate the equipment.
  • Follow all company safety, powered-equipment, and personal protective equipment requirements, and use proper lifting technique at all times.
  • Report facility, racking, lighting, or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately.

Housekeeping & Team Support

  • Discard plastic wrap, broken pallets, and other waste materials in the designated disposal areas throughout the shift rather than at the end of it.
  • Keep assigned work areas, pick lanes, and aisles clean, clear, and organized so product can be located and equipment can move safely.
  • Assist other selectors and breakers as needed so that all orders are completed on time.
  • Communicate with warehouse leads and supervisors to resolve issues or clarify order details.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of warehouse operations.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $39,000–$45,000 per year, depending on experience. This is a salaried, non-exempt position eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday. The workday begins at 11:30 AM and shifts typically run 10 to 12 hours depending on order volume. Fridays are usually our lightest day and generally a shorter shift. Weekends off.
  • Health Coverage: Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with KDC contributing a substantial share of the employee-only premium.
  • Life Insurance: $30,000 company-paid policy at no cost to the employee, with supplemental coverage available.
  • Additional Coverage: Voluntary short-term and long-term disability, accident, and critical illness coverage.
  • 401(k): Eligible after three months of service; company match of 50% on the first 6% of employee contributions, with traditional and Roth options.
  • Paid Time Off: Five days after six months of service, ten days annually at one to four years, and fifteen days annually after five years, with up to five days carryover.
  • Paid Holidays: Eight paid holidays per year with no waiting period.
  • Uniforms: Three uniforms provided at hire, plus discounts on work boots.
  • Other: Employee Assistance Program including access to our on-staff counselor, discounted gym membership, bi-weekly pay, and direct deposit.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced, physically demanding warehouse environment.
  • Consistent availability to work an afternoon shift Monday through Friday, with reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Strong attention to detail; this position is judged on the accuracy of its picks.
  • Basic computer and handheld-device skills, with the ability to learn company inventory and order systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, leads, and supervisors.
  • Ability to follow instructions, complete assigned work independently, and meet shift expectations without direct supervision.
  • Ability to operate, or be trained and certified to operate, a pallet jack and other warehouse equipment.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a clean, organized work area.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.

Preferred

  • Previous warehouse, order selection, or distribution experience.
  • Experience with inventory, order selection, or ERP software; experience with Encompass is a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • This is a physically demanding position. The work is continuous manual labor for the full 10- to 12-hour shift, and applicants should expect to be on their feet and moving the entire time.
  • Frequently and repetitively lift, carry, and place product weighing up to 50 pounds, from floor level to overhead, throughout the shift.
  • Push and pull carts and pallet jacks that can weigh up to approximately 1,000 pounds when fully loaded, across the length of the warehouse.
  • Stand and walk continuously throughout the warehouse for the duration of the shift, much of it on concrete; daily walking distance is substantial.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, and reach overhead repeatedly while selecting product from the pick lanes and building pallets.
  • Maintain this pace for the full shift, with the length and intensity of the day driven by daily order volume.
  • Work in a temperature-controlled warehouse, with typical warehouse noise and powered equipment traffic.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
