Summary:
Seeking a versatile individual to undertake a range of semi-skilled and technically proficient maintenance tasks involved in the operation, upkeep, and repair of water and wastewater treatment facilities and systems.
This position has been designated as safety-sensitive. Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening as a condition of employment.
Examples of Duties
Essential Job Functions:
  • Engage in entry-level labor to support the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems, primarily working within a construction crew focused on excavating and repairing water and sewer lines.
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems, primarily focusing on excavation and repair of water and sewer lines.
  • Operate crew trucks, backhoes, and other heavy and light equipment as needed.
  • Support licensed operators in sanitation and disinfection tasks.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal condition.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations and document work orders, test results, and regulatory information.
  • Adhere to written and oral instructions, along with City and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in rotating on-call/after-hour duty with other team members, including weekends.
Additional Duties:
  • Perform administrative tasks such as data entry and report compilation.
  • Conduct tests, maintain records, and prepare for inspections.
  • Operate plant equipment and ensure its operational efficiency.

Typical Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in operating heavy and light equipment.
  • Ability to use a variety of tools relevant to the role.
  • Knowledge of water utility installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Familiarity with safety hazards and best practices.
  • Ability to obtain a class "D" (TCEQ) water license within the 6 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements:
  • Work primarily outdoors or in confined spaces.
  • Physical exertion including bending, lifting, stooping, and reaching, with the ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
Equipment and Tools Utilized:
  • Backhoes, bulldozers, dump trucks, mowers, generators, hand tools, etc.
  • Personal protective equipment provided.

Supplemental Information
This vacancy may be filled at either the Technician I or Technician II level, depending on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. The starting salary for the Technician II position is $19.06 per hour.
