Job description

Entry-Level HVAC Technician - Building Our Bench

Nimmer Heating & Air Conditioning | Milwaukee & Waukesha County, WI

This isn't an active opening right now - it's how you get on our list for the next one.

We only bring on one entry-level tech at a time, and when that spot opens, we want to already know who we're calling. This posting is how you get on that list.

What This Role Actually Looks Like

Most people starting out with us begin on the install side and move into service once they've built the fundamentals - but that's not a fixed rule. Sometimes we start someone in the shop instead, helping out and learning the business from the ground up. Where you end up depends on you, not a script - and if you make it here, we've made exceptions for people who showed they were ready sooner.

If you're willing to start part-time in the shop first to prove yourself and learn how we operate, that's actually an even stronger way in. It shows us exactly the kind of initiative we're looking for.

What We're Actually Looking For

Here's the truth: we can teach the trade. We can't teach attitude. What we're really hiring for is someone who shows up with a genuine work ethic, takes initiative without being asked twice, and wants to be part of a team - not just punch a clock. If that's you, the technical skills will come.

Communication matters too. You'll be learning to talk with customers early - explaining what you're doing, answering questions, representing Nimmer in someone's home. Willingness to learn that side of the job is just as important as willingness to learn the technical side.

Pay & Growth

Entry-level pay typically starts around $18–$20/hour. That's the starting point, not the ceiling - techs who bring the right attitude and put in real effort to learn the trade move up fast, often within the first year. There's a clear path ahead of you once you're in, and we invest heavily in techs who show us they're serious.

Training

If you show up with attitude and initiative, we'll invest in you: an in-house trainer available weekly for technical and soft skills coaching, plus ongoing outside training opportunities every Fall and Spring. The more you show us you want to grow, the more we put into you.

How to Get on the List

Send us your resume, along with a short statement covering:

  • Why you're serious about a career in HVAC - not just "a job," but why this trade
  • Why Nimmer specifically - what made you want to work here
  • Real examples of your attitude, work ethic, and initiative - a time you showed up when it mattered, solved a problem without being told to, or pushed yourself to learn something new

We read every submission. If yours shows us you're serious, we'll add you to our shortlist and reach out within a few business days to let you know you're on it. From there, timing depends on business need and when we last brought someone on - typically within about 6 months, we'll be reaching out again when the next spot opens.

About Nimmer

We've spent 35+ years helping Milwaukee and Waukesha County homeowners stay safe and comfortable - heating, AC, air quality, and hydronic heat, done right. We're a Bryant Factory Authorized Dealer and Circle of Champions member, backed by 4.9 stars and 1,000+ Google reviews. But the reviews aren't the point - they're just proof that when we say "care for the customer," we mean it.
