Job description

Airtight Energy Consulting, Inc. is a small but growing company that provides HERS ratings, Passive House consulting and verification, and energy code assistance to developers, architects, contractors and others involved in the design and construction of multifamily buildings, single family homes, and commercial buildings. 

This entry-level position will focus on HERS ratings for single family homes and providing support to other staff performing, ENERGY STAR, Passive House, and Enterprise Green Communities consulting and verification for single family, multifamily, and commercial buildings.   This position has tremendous growth potential; the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of high performance, sustainable multifamily projects across the region and to become an expert on green building over the coming years through experience working on projects, support from knowledgeable co-workers, and participation in conferences and trainings.    

Responsibilities: 

  • Reviewing architectural, mechanical, plumbing, and lighting plans and specifications 
  • Performing take-offs of envelope, mechanical, plumbing, and lighting systems  
  • Creating 3D Sketchup models of single family, multifamily, and commercial buildings 
  • Reviewing and applying high performance and green building standards to projects 
  • Performing HERS ratings of single family homes and small multifamily buildings 
  • Providing project management and building science advice for single family homes and small multifamily buildings 
  • Performing on-site inspections for single family homes and small multifamily buildings 
  • Performing blower door, duct leakage, and ventilation testing using diagnostic equipment 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in science, engineering, architecture, building technology, or similar 
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience, preferably in design, construction, energy efficiency, engineering, or project management 
  • Experience using Sketchup or other drawing software preferred 
  • Interest in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and minimizing global climate change 
  • Located within Massachusetts and able to drive to construction sites throughout the state several days per week
  • Willing to work in our office in Northampton periodically
  • Ability to take the next scheduled NEHERS Alliance Rater Training 
  • Use of a personal vehicle for work and a good driving record
