Description
Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is searching for a Registered Nurse in our Specialty Care Clinic. Provides professional nursing care to patients within the assigned WMed Specialty Care Clinic under the direction of a physician or other authorized provider. Performs comprehensive nursing assessments, assists with developing and implementing patient care plans, administers medications and treatments, and provides patient education and support. Coordinates patient care and communicates with patients, families, providers, and other members of the healthcare team to promote safe, effective, and timely care. Provides appropriate patient care for adolescent eating disorder, allergy/immunology, OBGYN, orthopedic surgery/ sports medicine, pediatric pulmonary, general surgery, and infectious diseases. Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation and follows established clinical, regulatory, and organizational standards. Participates in quality improvement activities and supports the efficient operation of the specialty clinic.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ability to take patient vital signs and histories.
  • Ability to give medication and immunization.
  • Assist with procedures and sensitive exams.
  • Assist in care coordination and triaging patient symptoms.
  • Complete prior authorizations.
  • Manage prescription refills.
  • Discuss day-to-day issues with supervisor for resolution.
  • Refers abnormal lab work to physicians for appropriate follow up.
  • Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends and evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduate of an accredited RN Program required
  • One year's experience in healthcare setting preferred

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:
  • BLS certification required
  • Valid Michigan RN license required

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and ability to use the EMR
  • Knowledge of the phone system
  • Knowledge and ability to use Outlook messaging, appointment scheduling and the calendar
  • Positive attitude
  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected, less than 4% unscheduled PTO in a 12- month period
  • Demonstrates the WMed Values in Action daily Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to accept and apply feedback
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow.
  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
