The Howmet engines business produces world-class aerospace engine components, including investment castings, fasteners, rings and forgings. Our vacuum melted superalloys, machining, performance coatings and hot isostatic pressing for high performance parts enable the next generation of quieter, cleaner and more fuel-efficient aerospace engines. Able to supply more than 90% of structural and rotating aerospace engine components.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 
    • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
    • No relocation benefit is offered for this position. Candidates residing within a 50 miles radius of Dover NJ will only be considered.   
    • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • Must pass initial and annual Jaeger 1 visual test
    • Must be a certified Level I operator (Level II only)

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • Must be able to read customer specifications
    • Proficient computer skills
    • Prior x-ray/radiology experience a plus

    Physical Demands/Equipment Used 

    • Equipment used: X-ray units, film, reading lights, computers
    • Frequent pushing and pulling of up to 25 pounds.

    Howmet Aerospace is currently looking for a XRAY Inspector to join our Dover Casting group in Dover, New Jersey. 

    The work hours for this Midnight Shift are Sunday Night - Thursday Night 10:30PM-6:30AM

    Training will be on 1st shift Monday to Friday 6:30A - 2:30A for several months.

    New Hire Starting Hourly Rate:  $25.66; After 12 Months: $28.31

    This position will receive an hourly "shift premium" while assigned to an off-shift.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Entry level is a Level 1 trainee until the successful completion of the Level I certification requirements. Level 1 operates x-ray equipment to take x-rays of metal castings.

    Level II operates x-ray equipment to take x-rays of castings and interprets film and/or digital image to customer specifications.

    ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Expected to assist in the implementation of Howmet's EHS value and policy statement and its accompanying principles.
    • Comply with all department, facility, Corporate and Regulatory EH&S regulations.
    • Wear all required personal protective equipment.
    • Report all job related illness and injuries. (Per employee handbook).
    • Report all Safety, Health & Environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner.
    • Attend all EH&S training.

    Interpersonal Responsibilities

    This position has frequent internal contact with Engineering and Quality. 

    Essential Job Functions for Xray Operator - Level I

    • Must be able to pass RT Level 1 exams (practical, general, and specific) for certification with a composite score of not less than 80%.
    • Sets up and operates 320 KV, 450 KV, MEV, and digital X-ray units to x-ray metal castings for internal defects according to customer requirements.
    • Load film cassettes.
    • Process and sort film.
    • Operate densitometers to verify film densities.
    • Complete records as required for the process, NADCAP requirements, etc.
    • Must be able to read and follow techniques.
    • Expected to develop skills and train as Level II Inspector as determined by competency and the Company need. (This training will be on shift where the need is the greatest).
    • Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
    • Performs other duties assigned by supervision.

    Essential Job Functions for Xray Inspector - Level II

    • Must be able to pass RT Level II exams (practical, general, and specific) for certification with a composite score of not less than 80%.
    • Maintain Level I certification.
    • Views extra sensitive (1%) and sensitive (2%) x-ray film, n-ray film, and digital image to determine if castings are free of internal defects per customer requirements.
    • Locates defects on actual castings from x-ray film indications and marks locations for weld repair or mechanical repair (i.e core break, fins) in accordance with customer requirements.
    • Determines if any repairs or rework is necessary.
    • Complete inspection records as required for the process, NADCAP requirements, etc.
    • Maintains 98% reliability from surveillance audits.
    • Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
    • Performs other duties assigned by supervision.
