Entry Level Store Layout Designer information

How to become a layout designer?

To become an entry-level store layout designer, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, along with skills in design software such as AutoCAD or SketchUp. Gaining experience through internships or related retail design projects, and developing an understanding of store operations and customer flow, can also help build a strong foundation for this role.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

An entry-level store layout designer typically does not earn $10,000 a month without significant experience or specialization. High earnings in design-related fields usually require advanced skills, a strong portfolio, or working in high-demand environments, but such income levels are uncommon without formal education or extensive experience. Most roles at this income level are found in specialized or entrepreneurial contexts rather than entry-level positions.

How to get a product design job with no experience?

To get an entry-level store layout designer position with no experience, build a portfolio showcasing your design skills using software like AutoCAD or SketchUp, and gain knowledge of retail environments and visual merchandising. Internships, online courses, and certifications can also help demonstrate your abilities to employers. Networking and applying to entry-level roles can increase your chances of starting in the field.

What is an entry-level design job?

An entry-level store layout designer is a position suitable for individuals starting their careers in retail space planning and visual merchandising. It typically involves basic design tasks, using tools like CAD software, and may require some knowledge of store operations and customer flow. These roles often offer on-the-job training and do not require extensive professional experience.

What You'll Do - You'll Make the Moment

  • Redesign workflows to be simpler, more scalable, and easier to maintain through automation and standardization.
  • Maintain accountability for select signage execution activities to ensure operational continuity and credibility.
  • Partner with Technology, Data, Merchandising, Retail Operations, and Content teams to implement process and system improvements.
  • Leverage analytics and AI-enabled tools to support data preparation, exception detection, validation, and optimization.
  • Apply established process improvement patterns to other retail execution workflows as scope expands.
  • Design measurement frameworks for store layout variations, pilots, and A/B tests to evaluate effectiveness across sales, shopper engagement, execution quality, and operational impact.
  • Create standardized dashboards and recurring reporting to support decision-making, test readouts, and post-launch evaluations.

Experience and Education
  • College degree preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Two years of experience supporting retail operations, merchandising, or store execution processes is strongly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong process-thinking mindset with the ability to see how work flows across people, systems, and data.

  • Applied data literacy, including comfort working in Excel to analyze operational workflows and performance metrics.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted tools (e.g., copilots, automation, or intelligent validation tools) used to support operational efficiency is a plus.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate store-level data into insights and recommendations.
  • Experience or comfort working with retail performance metrics related to merchandising execution, store layout effectiveness, and test measurement.
  • Skill in leveraging data visualization to communicate to various audiences
  • Ability to design simple but effective test measurement frameworks (e.g., control vs. test stores, pre-/post-analysis)
