Job description

Marcelli Steel is seeking a highly organized & driven person for an entry-level position to assist Estimating Team in all day to day activities including but not limited to reviewing blueprints, performing Project Takeoffs, Compiling Estimates of the quantity and costs of steel, Bid Coordination & Administrative Support. The ideal candidate will be organized, have excellent numerical skills, an analytical mindset and be apt at managing relationships with key persons and following direction. 
This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in steel estimating while gaining exposure to real-world fabrication, coordination, and project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications (including Division 05, DOT & prevailing wage requirements) to understand full project scope 
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for structural steel, joists, deck, and miscellaneous metals 
  • Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates, including material, fabrication, labor, and subcontracted erection 
  • Solicit and compile pricing from vendors, detailers, and erection subcontractors 
  • Identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, and potential risks within bid documents
  • Maintain and update internal cost data for materials, labor, and equipment 
  • Prepare takeoffs / estimates, proposals & bid submissions 
  • Coordinate with internal teams (estimating, project management, shop) as needed
  • Assist in tracking scope changes, RFIs, and their impact on pricing 
  • Ensure estimates align with applicable codes, AISC standards, and project specifications
  • Assist with annual AISC Audit 
  • Some admin responsibilities, i.e. answering phones, taking and placing orders and other light work 
Qualifications:
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills 
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and shop drawings 
  • Critical thinking skills & the Ability to Convert measurements, analyze pricing & account info a must.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with estimating software is a plus but not necessary
  • Strong interpersonal skills & the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, clients, vendors, etc.
  • Ability to excel in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Self motivated and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
