Position Overview

The Self-Perform Estimator (Civil/Concrete/Marine) is responsible for assisting with the estimating process for our heavy civil & Marine market. This individual is accountable for the satisfaction of clients and the quality and competitiveness of assigned estimates. This role is accountable for accurate and timely quantity surveys, as well as preliminary pricing through full estimates as assigned.

  • Accountable for discharge of all estimating-related responsibilities -- primarily within self-perform concrete scopes.
  • Assists with “win” strategy development for assigned pursuits.
  • Has experience in the unique requirements of forming and operating within joint ventures.
  • Actively engaged in business acquisition efforts (e.g. client presentations).
  • Participates in and supports the project selection (“go/no go”) process.
  • Skilled in managing estimating/preconstruction responsibilities for alternative delivery methods.
  • Capable of performing highly complex take-offs and final pricing.
  • Cultivate and maintains extensive subcontractor/supplier/client/designer relationships.
  • Possesses knowledge of craft labor collective bargaining contracts and labor agreements.
  • Possesses a general understanding of Company insurance and bonding requirements.
  • Fully understands corporate safety statistics and policies and their impact on estimates.
  • Researches and interprets projects pricing trends including escalation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related technical field and two (2) years of related experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of field experience is strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to projects and/or pursuits within the heavy civil and/or marine sectors is ideal.
  • Familiarity with InEight and Planswift preferred.
  • Candidates must have the skills and experience to develop winning strategies, interpret complex engineering documents, perform conceptual and detailed estimates, and assist in the development of staffing and schedule approaches. The candidate must also have a firm understanding of a variety of delivery methods as well as associated preconstruction services.
  • This individual will ideally have experience in the unique requirements associated with forming and operating within joint ventures.
  • Qualified candidates for the role will ideally possess some knowledge of craft labor collective bargaining contract and labor agreements, as well as company insurance and bonding requirements.
