Description Summary
An entry level position within the Sewer Department performing a wide variety of semi-skilled assignments in maintenance and construction work on the operations and activities of the wastewater collection system and appurtenances.
Expectation of Job Duties
The following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
  • Participate in monitoring and calibrating a variety of wastewater instruments.
  • Perform a variety of indoor and outdoor construction, maintenance, repair, testing and reporting assignments common to the collection of wastewater.
  • Participate in providing statistical information on sewer department activities.
  • Perform a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance of wastewater operations.
  • Participate in preparation of reports as requested.
  • May operate all light equipment such as pick up trucks and similar equipment.
  • Assist in performing routine maintenance and service on motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Participate in installation, maintenance, and rebuilding lift stations, grinder stations, and related appurtenances.
  • Follow daily and weekly work schedules and complete projects in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Follow departmental rules, policies and procedures, and assists fellow employees in same.
  • Follow rules and policies to be in compliance with safe working practices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid Missouri Drivers License.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • One year in wastewater collection and/or treatment preferred.

OR
  • Combination of education, training, or experience which would qualify for the position as determined by the City Administrator and Public Works Director.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Construction equipment, materials, and methods employed in sewer collection systems and sewer construction and maintenance.
  • Hazards and safety precautions common in public works.

Ability to:
  • Operate City vehicles in accordance with state laws and City Policies.
  • Carry out general mechanical tasks.
  • Maintain detailed accurate records and reports.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and general public.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions with limited supervision
