Job Summary: Join Salas O'Brien and be part of a team that provides valued solutions that build success for our clients and employees. Your Civil Engineer role will include building and managing relationships with in-house teams and contractors while providing design and consulting services that are needed by facility managers and owners. The types of projects that you will work on will include:

Responsibilities:
  • Support the design of civil engineering projects while building technical independence.
  • Complete routine engineering calculations using standard methods, references, and software tools.
  • Research and select materials and components using engineering references and product literature.
  • Grow into increased technical responsibility through hands-on project experience.
  • Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings, including discipline-specific nomenclature and plan set content.
  • Assist with hydrologic analyses by evaluating land use conditions, selecting runoff coefficients, and calculating times of concentration.
  • Assist with site layout, grading, utility, drainage, and sedimentation and erosion control designs for planning, permitting, and construction phases. Design components include roadway and parking layouts, overall site grading, storm drainage, sanitary sewer, domestic water, fire protection, thermal distribution, electrical and telecommunication infrastructure, and site lighting.
  • Utilize engineering software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Hydraflow and SewerGEMS.
  • Review plans and collaborate with project engineers and other team members to resolve design challenges.
  • Provide timely services that meet the needs of the clients and the overall project schedule requirements.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Applicants should have a minimum of a BS in Civil Engineering and have or plan to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
  • Applicants must have a working knowledge of Civil analysis and design software (specifically Civil 3D preferred).
  • This opportunity is intended to be a hybrid position (3 days in the office/2 days remote) but other arrangements will be considered depending upon the qualifications and circumstances of the applicant.
  • Ability to travel to project sites.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and e-mail applications.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and strong communication (written and verbal).
  • Confident and ambitious problem solver.
  • Adaptable - flexible and willing to work on various projects and tasks.

Location: Bloomfield, CT/Newton, MA/Bloomington, MN
Travel: Up to 10%
Compensation & Benefits:
The expected base salary range for this role is $75,000 - $80,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
