Description

Job Summary:

The Renewable Energy (RE) Electrician Apprentice is an entry-level position that supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of renewable energy systems to include solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery backup in commercial, industrial, and public facilities. This role offers hands-on experience under the supervision of experienced solar electricians and provides a pathway for career growth in the renewable energy industry.

Must be willing to travel.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of solar PV systems and related electrical equipment

Work under the supervision and guidance of licensed solar electricians and/or project leads

Install wire, conduit, combiner boxes, junction boxes, disconnects, breakers, inverters, and other components according to job specifications and the National Electrical Code (NEC)

Participate in racking system assembly, solar panel placement, and module wiring

Help install solar-related electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, control cabinets, and monitoring systems

Understand and assist with power, control, grounding, and motor circuitry as applicable to solar systems

Use hand and power tools to bend conduit, pull wire, and assemble electrical enclosures

Assist with trenching and conduit installation, using hand tools or small machinery

Maintain a clean and safe work area and adhere to all OSHA and company safety standards

Collaborate with team members and follow instructions to meet deadlines and project goals

Participate in on-site and formal training programs related to solar systems and electrical safety

Qualifications and Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Enrollment in or interest in a solar or electrical apprenticeship program preferred

1-3 years of relevant experience in electrical, roofing, or construction trades preferred

Ability to read and understand installation instructions, procedures, labels, and gauges.

Perform basic math operations, including fractions, decimals, measurements, and unit conversions

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with team members and supervisors (written, verbal, and nonverbal)

Ability to get along with others in a professional manner

Self-motivated with strong time management and organizational skills

Working knowledge of NEC and OSHA safety regulations; solar safety training is a plus (?)

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred

Desire to grow oneself in career, knowledge, and life

Physical Demands:

Capable of standing, walking, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs, and performing physical tasks as needed

Use hands and fingers to handle or operate tools and materials

Regularly required to talk and hear while working in teams or receiving instructions

Work Environment:

Able to work in outdoor construction environments with exposure to heat, cold, varying weather, dust, and uneven terrain for extended periods of time

Regular exposure to loud noise, moving parts, and vibration from power tools and machinery

Work is performed primarily at active construction or installation sites

Willing to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or evenings, based on project needs with an ability to travel 80 percent of the time.
