Job description

Nova Biomedical: One Global Brand. One Vision. Together under one name.
Advanced Instruments and Nova Biomedical are now united under one brand, Nova Biomedical, marking a major milestone in our journey to deliver greater value to our customers. By combining our strengths, we're accelerating innovation, supporting critical workflows, and delivering world-class service across the biopharmaceutical and clinical markets.
Job Summary:
Nova Biomedical is seeking a Senior Software QA Engineer to join the R&D team in Norwood, MA. This newly created position will support software quality assurance activities for upcoming Osmometer projects and IVDR-related initiatives.
The Senior Software QA Engineer will be responsible for developing and executing advanced software tests designed to uncover defects early in the development lifecycle. This role requires an analytical and investigative approach, with the ability to anticipate how software may fail, create effective test scenarios, and thoroughly evaluate application performance and reliability. The ideal candidate will be an experienced software tester who can identify risks, challenge system behavior, and collaborate with development teams to deliver high-quality software for regulated medical devices.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive software test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test scenarios based on product and software requirements.
  • Design advanced tests that challenge expected system behavior and identify defects, edge cases, and potential failure points early in the development lifecycle.
  • Perform functional, integration, system, regression, and exploratory testing of software used in Nova Biomedical's Osmometer product portfolio.
  • Review software requirements and technical documentation for clarity, completeness, consistency, and testability.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Product Management, Quality, Regulatory, and other R&D partners throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects through resolution.
  • Reproduce reported software issues and provide development teams with clear documentation, relevant data, and detailed steps for reproduction.
  • Evaluate software changes to determine testing scope, regression risk, and potential effects on existing functionality.
  • Verify resolved defects and confirm that corrective changes do not introduce new issues.
  • Contribute to software verification and validation activities supporting new product development and product updates.
  • Support software quality activities associated with IVDR requirements and other applicable medical device regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and traceable software test records in accordance with applicable design control and quality system procedures.
  • Participate in software design reviews, requirements reviews, risk assessments, and project meetings.
  • Communicate software quality risks, test progress, defects, and release-readiness concerns to technical and project stakeholders.
  • Apply risk-based testing strategies to prioritize high-impact product functionality and patient or user risks.
  • Recommend improvements to software testing practices, tools, documentation, and quality processes.
  • Promote early defect detection and a proactive approach to software quality across development teams.

Experience Requirements:
  • Significant professional experience in software quality assurance, software verification, or advanced software testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to create detailed test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test scenarios.
  • Experience designing tests that identify software defects, unexpected behavior, edge cases, and failure conditions.
  • Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including functional, system, integration, regression, and exploratory testing.
  • Experience testing software throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Ability to analyze software and product requirements and translate them into effective, traceable tests.
  • Experience documenting, tracking, reproducing, and verifying software defects.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to anticipate potential failure modes and identify defects before software is released.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing complete, accurate, and compliant test documentation.
  • Experience collaborating with software developers, systems engineers, quality professionals, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex software issues clearly.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative R&D environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple testing priorities and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Experience within medical technology, medical devices, diagnostics, or another regulated product-development environment strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of software quality requirements applicable to regulated medical devices preferred.
  • Experience supporting IVDR-related product or software activities preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent education and relevant professional experience may be considered.
  • Specific required software tools, programming languages, and test automation platforms to be confirmed by the hiring team.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Comfort with working at a computer for extended periods.
  • Capacity to lift and carry up to [25-50] pounds as required
  • Able to communicate effectively via phone, video, and written communication.
  • Occasional need to move about the office to access meetings or resources.
