POSITION SUMMARY

The Engineering Design Tech I will be a key member of the design and drafting group that is an integral part of the IEC engineering organization. The Design Tech will be responsible for generating models, designs, drawings and specifications for components, subassemblies and assemblies for HVAC products that meet or exceed best-in-class performance and reliability targets across multiple platforms and product families, as well as manufacturing support for existing products. The Design Tech will have firsthand knowledge and experience in the areas of mechanical design and applications, manufacturing & assembly methods, industry standards. Throughout their career, the Design Tech will have assignments of increasing responsibility to be able to grow professionally and become a critical contributor to strategic IEC initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions Statement(s)

Work in a team environment to design & optimize systems and components employing the latest modeling software & design techniques, including but not limited to sheet metal fabrication, piping & component layout, wiring diagrams and electrical schematics

Create documentation to facilitate the manufacturing process

Provide direction & details for building prototypes, structuring BOMs and assembling products in a production environment

Assist in a real-time root cause analysis and problem resolution for products flowing through the manufacturing assembly lines

Interface with the manufacturing personnel in optimizing assembly methods and streamlining the manufacturing processes

Generate system & component models, drawings, specifications, summary reports and standard work instructions

Present work status to the engineering team and other company functions

Follow verbal and written instructions from Project Engineers, Designers and Senior Technicians, as well as Engineering Managers.

Follow processes and procedures for Design & Detail of parts & assemblies

Read and interpret sheet metal drawings, copper drawings and wiring diagrams

Create Design assemblies and make modifications with a minimum of supervision

Ability to work with competing demands

Can use AS400 Product Inquiry and Product Structure Inquiry Screens

Identify fit, form, and function of the major components of a heat pump

Maintain clean work environment as per established guidelines in accordance w/5S principles

Consistently maintains a clean and well-organized work area

Able to work flexible hours. May include Saturday and overtime work

Reports any unsafe conditions or actions, and promotes safe working conditions and environment

Follows safety guidelines and policies and always ensure safe working practices

Any other duties assigned by Engineering Management

Skills & Abilities

Education:

Associate degree, technical certification or equivalent experience in Mechanical Design & Drafting.

Experience:

Entry-Level: 1 years of Mechanical Design technical experience preferred.

Computer Skills:

Knowledge of CREO 3D modeling Software, WindChill Database Mgt, ACAD

Database software; AS400

Skilled with Microsoft Office suite products (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel)

Certificates & Licenses: N/A

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of basic refrigeration concepts and tools.

Knowledge of basic electrical concepts.

Knowledge and use of basic hand tools, sheet metal tools, air, and motorized tools such as screw guns and drills
